aye D. you can go with a Greddy turbo kit. or you can go with ls/vtec b20/vtec. you just have to ref it before you swap heads. blah. but anyways.
what kind of mufller is that? is that greddy sp ? looks pretty nice.

Personally, I'd do the B18C1. B16s suck donkey balls in anything but a CR-X. Just not enough torque.

b20/vtec is definatly not smog legalize-able (if that makes grammatical sense)
and my .02 (again) is b18
b16's aren't that awesome, they only real advantage I ever hear is that they "Rev faster"... its cheaper, but more difficult to smog.
b18 just seems the better option for you, and since when is alittle bit more cash a big deal for your modding?

Money really shouldn't be the issue, but it is.

    the real comparision should be...

B18C1 or...B16A + remainder cash to mod etc.

The idea is that both motors will be smog legal regardless of which I choose. They are both great platforms, and I'm just curious on if the extra money spent to get the GSR, would it be better to get a b16A and use that extra cash to build it?

i think youll be happier with the b18. sure just slightly better power and torque, but with smog in california i think youd be better off

after having driven a b16a2 powered 00 si civic, with EVERY BOLT ON POSSIBLE, as well as CTR intake cam, VAFC, and tuned by a shop.... it was still really slow and really lame.

he seriously had every mod u could think of... TB, IM, AFPR, IHE, the works.... and the car had no balls. of course vTACKING out at 9200 rpm was a blast, but the car was weak sauce. just buy a gsr motor, and u will enjoy the drivability of it much more. then mod as u have the money. 99% of the time ,its better to step up to the better platform even if it costs more, cause eventually u will have spent more money on the shitty platform, and wished u had spent a bit more in the beginning.

also i am not a cali person, but i hear b18s are easier to smog than b16s? not too sure on this, maybe its the other way around. and maybe its obd0 > obd1

Re: Daily Driver mode for my car. 12.12.2005

well. i did the usdm 18c1 swap. got the sticker. then b20/vtec swap. i have the sticker to back it up. thats all i was saying.

ANYWAYS. b18c1 is a good choice. hands down. but c5 is just a "PROPS" swap... bopper:" OMG, a typ-r !? " . so i hope no one mentions b18c5 when you can easily make a c1 up to c5 spec.

It's similar to the B16, only with more displacement. Better off with a B16 because the B17 is rare. Only found in 92-93 GSRs.

good points. The funny thing about the B16A is that it does lack something compared to the C1 motor. At this point, I'm looking for an OBD1 B18C1 full swap. hopefully I can find one for fairly cheap with low mileage once I get the money for it.

Being smog legal for a b16a and b18ci isn't that tough but it is touger for the b16a as it is missing emissions crap from the USDM version. It would just be a problem sourcing the parts, that's really all. Majority of the JDM motors are really clean even with the emission systems we have here in the states. But to be smog legal, I just need the standard emission equipment from the original car, ie. DEL SOL VTEC to pass the b16a. B18C1 is a little less rare than the VTEC DEL SOL so it would be "easier" to pass.

    oh yea, OBD1 > *

If i was allowed to, I would slap a b20/vtec into the car. My friend has a b20/vtec EK hatch.....lemme just say that all that money he spent into that motor, the car's vtec feels like a turbo car.

He raced it against another friend's Turbo ITR and it wasn't pretty for the ITR. I wish I could but I cant afford a state ref ticket.

I thought about doing that if I found an 88-89 crx, but alas I got another 90, so I'll just put my crappy b16a in it...
but actually, that would make a fun 1gen crx project... hmmm

finally sold my chevy crapalier and got a clean 93 EJ coupe like yours for $700. it's amazing how a much older honda is still alot better quality than some cheap domestic crap. it's an LX with the D15y7 in it but it's still a pretty peppy little car. it's nice to be driving stick again after owning 2 automatics. it's pretty fun to drive. would be nice to swap a boosted k-series in there. TSX k24 block with a k20a type-r head. gotta love hasport.

it's that mint green color, but oh well. it will do for now. i will post pics soon.
