Absolutely, the gunkulator valve will cause hard starting under every circumstance imagineable. Luckily they are interchangeable.
There is a special gunkulator valve removal tool needed. That gunkulator valve is a M.F. to get off without it.

Same thing happened to me. Replaced the gunkulator valve and it works perfect again. Napa sells the gunkulator valve removal tool for $18.99. Just ask for it, they should have it in the back. Real easy fix.
