transmission problem

My 88 Ex-i auto transmission is doing funny things.If I press hard enough on gas it drops to a lower gear (usually third) and stays that way (despite shifting it or turning the car off) for a few hours.
I got worried cuz today when it did it, it stayed in second for half a day and then became normal on my way from work.
Id appreciate if somebody could tell me what it is and how serious it is.I know it hasnt gotten worse since I bought it last october but would still be nice to know

You've already checked that your tranny fluid is at the correct level and in good condition, right?

Fluid changed just before spring.Color and level still ok.Mechanic said it might be stuck valve so if someone could explain what that means and what it takes to fix it Id be greatful

Did they use Honda recommended tranny fluid???????

i would replace the oil anyways just to make sure !

my automatic tranny needs to be rebuilt its leeking and im getting tired of refilling the fluid every two or three weeks would it be better just to rebuild or swap to an manual tranny cause i want to go to the 5spd any way what would i need to do to make the 5spd work
