I already have a sub box and I wonder if I could brace it on the outside? Can I screw together pieces of wood to make the box tighter?

Theres no point bracing a box from the outside, it wouldn't do a lot of good.
If you have to brace it, use 45degree triangle braces along the entire length of all corners. This will also slightly increase the output as it creates a smoother air passage with less major angles.
No matter how cheap the sub is, a better box can always make a difference.
Bracing should always be done on the inside. You could do it by placing a single piece of mdf that streches from the top to the bottom and screw it in from the outside. THEN again the box is vented so pressure won't build up in it like a sealed enclosure. I don' think bracing it is going to do anything for you.
