    How long?

    Hello,

    Well I was wondering how long some think I can go with the valves ticking? My car has 33,000 miles, which is about time for me to adjust the valves, but I cannot do it untill next week. Oil and everything is fine, I already have to change the timing belt too, since everything under the hood is stock. I figured if I am doing the timing I might as well do a waterpump too. I bought plugs, wires, cap, and rodar also just to do it all, I did well, I spent 139.99 on everything. I also had a question, when installing CAI, on the stock intake there are a few vacume hoses going into it, is it going to hurt it when I take them off?

    your car only has 33,000 miles?!?! that's awesome! yeah, even though it's so low mileage, the age would make the parts wear away, so it's good that you're doing something of a tune up.

    as fas as the valve ticking goes, how bad is it? if it's just a slight tapping, then you can wait. if it's more like a WHACK WHACK WHACK WHACK, then I'd do it ASAP, and don't rev your engine very high.

    you want your engine to not make any kind of ticking noise at all when they're adjusted right. I just did a friend's valve lash yesterday, on the A20A3. It took about 30 minutes. No big deal.

    Ideally those hoses should be connected to your CAI. They pull in air so Honda placed them after the filter on the stock system to keep dirt out.

    thanks, i should be adjusting the valves tomorrow, after searching the forums, i guess I will let my car sit all night and some in the morning so it is completely cold before adjusting them.

    Clearances for valves are;
    • Intake- including auxiliary valve 0.005-0.007 in. (0.12-0.17 mm.)
    • Exhaust-0.010-0.012 in. (0.25-0.30 mm.)
