    my wheel almost came off!!!!

i was driving home (i was quite far away, maybe about 30miles from home), and felt the steering wheel shake & heard the front left tire makin noise. so i pull over and notice that the lugs on the wheel were so loose, that i could loosen them with my hands!!!! the rims are not stock, they are 15's of some ford, but it still has the stock lugs. i'm thinking that could be the problem? if i go to autozone or pep boys or any auto store, could i just pick up any new type of lugs for the rims? or do are are they a specific fit?

    TIA

Yeah, that is definately a problem. Honda uses ball-seat lug nuts which should absolutely not be used with any other wheels. You need 12x1.5 acorn buldge works well.

same thing happened to me, but not because of new wheels. I have stock wheels, but when I was rotating my tires over at a friends house, his impact wrench was leaking air and we didn't know it, so the lugs just didn't really get tightned at all. So all of my lugs were a little loose. It started as a small sound that i noticed, and 2 days latter my car was shaking violently. good thing i pulled over and checked the lugs, other wise i could have a lot more damage.

Yeah, Honda specs call for 80 ft-lbs of torque, but I usually go 90.

That's why i always torque all my lug nuts with down with the torque wrench after i use the tire iron or impact wrench.

yeah i know the rims arent the prettiest thing... but they have better tires than my stocker 14's did, they are lighter than the steel rims that were on there (or so they seem) & i pretty much got them for free!
also i'm not sure if they are ford rims? i tried to find out what kind of for these came off of, but no luck in my searches... any of you guys have an idea?

Factory lug nuts absolutely do have something to do with it. I worked at Les Schwab for a year and a half and I saw several wheels come loose or fall off because of the wrong kind of lug nuts. Factory honda lug nuts should ONLY be used with factory honda wheels, nothing else.

It only makes sense to replace you lugs if you replace the wheels. Come now if you drop a couple bills on some wheels whats another10-20 bucks for new lug nuts

i think you got some ford escort gt wheels there buddy-pretty cool but you should always have a tire shop or more qualified person work on your wheels/brakes becasee it may turn into a life or death situation next time....i am just glad that you didn't get into an accident.
