    Dranning transmission?

    I have a 1989 Honda accord (carb) adn i wanted to put new ATF fluid in is it possible to drain the old fluid with out disamble of the tranny? and how hard is it?

    Drain plug on right side under axle.

    cardoc's right, just open the drain plug. It's a round bolt like this sticking out of the tranny on the passenger side. The bolt is easily identified because it is circular with a squared indentation in it. Just use a 3/8 drive rachet, stick the ratchet in there and open her up. The Chilton's manual says to replace the washer on the drain plug when you put it back on. Also, be sure to tighten the drain plug to 29 ft. lbs(40 Nm). I recomend only Honda Auto tranny fluid, and make sure the car is sitting level when you fill it back up.

    I wish this thread was her like 2 or 3 weeks ago when I was cursing out my car for hiding the Drain plug and ATF Dip stick.

    wait, our tranny's have dipsticks?

    I didn't know that... Or is that only for the auto tranny?

    i have auto tranny i dont think manual has them idk tho but i still cant get mine off it is stuck on there it was never changed b4 is there somthing i could sparay on it or do to get it off

    spray some pb blaster on it, then use channel locks, or vise grips to twist
    it out. Be careful not to break it !
