Oem carb filter or high performance?

I have a '86 LX and I don't want any kind of particles entering the intake manifold, and cause damage to my engine, but I want I lil boost in performance.Which air filter is better blocking those particles, the oem or the high flow(like K&N)?

I would say stick with OEM to keep out the particles
I dunno but if oiled cotton gauze was better it would be used more often, but I think most filters on masks and stuff still use paper, it could be a cost issue too though.

If you want performance and good filtration then get the K&N. I haven't used their stock replacement but I did buy a cone filter, I think it was ment for a 5 or 6 liter engine, but it worked great.
