so are u asking a question? does your car act more noticably like this when its cold? on my 86, with the cold idle going, when i drove it hard while cold (not smart) at about 4000 it would definetly have a surge in power. see if it happens just as much when the car is warm. if so, its probably just your secondaries opening. 88-89 lxi has an extra set of butterflys in the intake manifold.
Extra set of butterflys? Cool, I thought only VW's had that, where in my intake manifold are the secondaries?Originally Posted by bobafett

hahahahahahaha no it does this when it cold and warmed up. dont know if there is a point when it is supposed to do this. new to these cars. and there is no stupit questions just stupid answers if u never had this problem before. like i said im new to this car. just looking for info. didnt know about secondaries on this car . YES THIS IS A LEGIT QUESTION? does this car have something like a power band or secondary butterflys that might be sticking.
they shouldnt be sticking if you get the surge of power. yes its normal on these cars. its not a big difference but its noticable. you secondaries are in the middle of your intake. there is a vacuum thing on the right side of your intake that controls them. you can move it by hand. if you want you can rig them up to stay open but i dont know what for.

The pwoer surge will usually be noticed when the engine reaches it's peak torque.

cool now i know something i didnt thanks
The power surge you feel is the beginning of the power band. I believe it is arround 3000 rpm that the ignitoion starts to advance as well. Peak power is 5800 rpm. Your secondary butterfly valves located on the opposite side from the throttle body are opened at 5000 rpb by the ecu. You will see a little round vaccume solenoid with a lever going to the intake manifold. This controls your secondaries.
