    Changing trans fluid

Alright i posted this in someone elses thread but i cant seem to find the filler plug... The only thing that loooked like it was on the side of the transmission and when i pull that transmission fluid comes out... any thoughts?
I would love a pic that shows the plug...

Also the reason i am doing this is because in 5th gear i have a whinning noise... my gf says it sounds like when a plane takes off... i thought changing the fluid would be my first troubleshooting attempt...

i'm not real familiar with the manual tranny, but it should be the dip stick hole on the top of the transmission. i dont know any honda car that doesnt have it like that.
Keep it HONDA. Or at least Asian.™

i believe it's another plug that looks like the drain plug, just up higher.

to drain there is a plug at lower part of tranny , you need a 3/8 inch rachet to remove plug,, when drained , reinstall plug, above rt axle there is a 17mm bolt, remove it, that's where you fill the tranny ,, use only motor oil 10w 30 works great,, get a little pump and pump oil in that hole till oil comes out,,it takes about 3 qts,,

the reason 5th gear is noisy , most likely is because someone used gear oil in the tranny ....

when filling it, just get a hose long enough to fit outside of the fender and attach a funnel

    Re: Changing trans fluid

I rescently had to fill my tranny for a clutch job. That big 17mm plug is the fill hole and you will need a funnel and a hose to fill it. MAKE SURE the car is level when you fill the trans. If you fill it with the front jacked up it will not fit the maximum amount of fluid in.

    Re: Changing trans fluid

AZMIKE is right - under most circumstances, 2.5 qts. will refill a 3G automatic after doing a drain for a hr. or so.

What I found is if you first drive the car and really warm it up, then drain on a flat surface OVERNIGHT for SEVERAL hours, 4 qts. gets drained instead of 2.5 qts.

Since the whole system holds 6 qts., you get almost twice as much removed.
