    civic brake swap?

so i was doing some research on brake options and found an interesting link to a teggy site that was adapting nsx and legened caliprs/rotors and the thread the link was in was saying we could possibly do that but then justin had posted somthing about a hot-to on a civic brake swap, which would lead up to a big brake kit, i did some searching but couldnt find it, does anybody happen to know where this thread is or can anybody just help me out, im not really looking into doing a swap just wanting to read and learn, thanks guys

The first thing that comes to mind is the Big brake how to, unless your talking about something different.

yea, i dont know why it couldnt be done. You wont have to worry about longer lines or anything, since the caliper will be closer to the master cylinder, or higher up... either way you look at it.

Seems like a nice investment... time to add another thing to my "things to do" this summer :P

    Re: civic brake swap?

thanks eric, i think thats what i was looking for, in the thread it says you have to run a 16" rim cause the 15 isnt big enought, i was just curious as to if this applied to aftermarket 15's, i realize aftermarket 15's have more room then stock 15's but is there still not enought room, thanks

    Re: civic brake swap?

If you want 15s then their more than likely going to have to be after market. Heres some 15s that will fit over 12" rotors.

I have almost finished collecting parts for the SEi disc swap, but I'm going to skip a step and go straight to the big brake upgrade. I just need to buy the front rotors and i will have all the parts. But they won't be going on until i get new bearings pressed in them and I get some rims that will fit over them, not sure if i want 15s or 16s though.

pretty much, as long as the rotor's lug holes are 4x100 you can fit them onto the accord stock hub, but you still need a new caliper mount. i thought about doing that, but i want to still be able to run on 13's, i just like the look on my 3gee.

    Re: civic brake swap?

nothin wrong with a bigger rim, i browsed around and found a few 11" calipers, not sure how much larger those are compared to ours, but i plan to make a few measurements and see where it will go. If they wont clear 16's then that ideas out.

Thinkin about it, they should, by several inches... thats probably close to the stock sized 88-89 lxi rotors correct?

Maybe something more like a 13" caliper?

    Re: civic brake swap?

caliper or rotor? are you talking about the rotor size instead of the caliper? my solution to get some better braking is going to probably be some slotted rotors or the drilled ones, same size as stock. just something to disipate heat better would be good, so more likely i'll use some drilled rotors. and no, nothing wrong with using larger rims. i still want to go with some 16's, but i love my good old 13's.

I have 16" circut 8's and theres a ton of room for big brakes so I dont see why they wouldnt clear 15"

I'm running the Type r brake setup currently. I have 15" wheels also. I have about 500 miles on them so far no problems.

this might be the 2 piston article your reffering to. I think the vehicles he list for the rotors might be incorrect.

    Re: civic brake swap?

i dont think the legend question has been awnsered, but from reading the gsr thread there it seems like they would take the same mods as the other ones, but then anything can be made to fit, with money of course.

Make sure you check the year of the legend. The 86-88 had some funky rear suspention setup where the spring was seperate from the strut. Make sure to check the 89-90 to see if they will work. I am not sure if the brake setup is different for the all those years, but I know they all have disk brakes on all corners.

with the 18's on there the cars gonna sit like a 4x4 for you would wanna lower it and when you put a set of springs or colivers on it its a good idea to upgrade the struts aswell to handle the springs, i dont see any inssues with 18's rims and braking

You braking performacne will be reduced somewhat. The 18s will have a lot more inertia than the stock wheels.
