Re: fiberglass caps for the inside of the hatch

ok for an update, sorry didn't get to take pics this time,my wife and I worked on smoothing out the big panel with the monitor. lots of sanding and filler, and kitty hair to build up the surface. I figured out why they call it kitty hair,it looks just like something the cat left in your shoe overnight. and just as hard to work with. but it's strong as crap when it sets, just like a petrified hairball. I would like to get this thing upholstered sometime. we are going to work on the hood tomorrow,I'm planning on buying my primer the last week of this month,so we can at least get it in primer.

Re: fiberglass caps for the inside of the hatch

sorry if i haven't got to take any pics yet, will try to get some film ones on thursday, the entire piece is in,all the other trim pieces that go around it are upholstered and in,I just made the fiberglass piece that fits on the jack door today and got it upholstered. so now it's on to the other side. I even put a raised honda H in the upholstery on the jack door cover. I hope it comes out in the pictures. sorry for the delay on then, the digital camera is kaput. oh I picked up a coleco vision head to head game for two dollars at walmart, gotta love clearance, it has all the old eighties coleco games, and plugs into the monitor. games like coleco football and baseball, the old racing game, and even kungfoo fly catcher. i had forgotten about those from the eighties.

Re: fiberglass caps for the inside of the hatch

    ok the rest
I redid the hatch floor again while I was doing this,This time i covered it with the black tweed, and I put a carpeted ruber mat that fits in there. the mat velcroes to the tweed, and you can peel it up for the junk acess door over the spare tire. i put the two speakers for the monitor on the back of the access door. so they are in the floor over the spare tire.

LOL I haven't even started the other side yet,I'm not sure what to put there yet,if i ever get the money I was thinking monitor with built in dvd player that way I can add an FM modulator for movie sound on the rear speakers. and a switch so you can play games on one side movie on the other,or movie on both sides. also a deep cycle battery soon so I don't drain my regular battery at shows.

Re: fiberglass caps for the inside of the hatch

well on the other side I think i'm going to do something that follows the curve of the subwoofer tube, It may not look like it but on the side where the monitor is,there is now enough space behind that panel for a drink holder to slide back into. thats how far out I brought the panel, but it really doesn't use much space in the hatch, due to that space being laregly unused. On the other side i have that sei drink holder i'll build in,a volt meter of course, and possibly a clock. I set this up for going to shows in the future, for the people at the shows of course, but also for myself and my wife when we have to sit by the car all day. I'm going to set up the electrical system on the car so i can switch in a deep cycle battery for shows, and turn off my main battery. when you get back from a show you just pull the deep cycle and put it on the charger. the space I'm talking about utilizing here is the space from the top of the sub tube to where it curves up under the plastic pieces that hold the hatch cover and the speakers. that is all unused wasted space now. even without the sub tube it's still unusable wasted space.

i really need to get busy designing the other side of this, just haven't had time to think about it is all. i thought of maby a recessed area to hold a rubiks cube or something, def something from the eighties design. maby i'll pull out the extra panel this weekend and stare at it for a while.

yea it's one of the older ones when they were much better made,i scrapped the internal amp since they are shit, the driver itself is a two ohm on the powered ones. i run an active crossover just for the bass, and one of the older sony amps when they were good. they sound much better with proper equalization and enough power to run the tube effectivly. the equalization on the factory tube amp was so bad you could hear mid range clearly when the tube was operating. the tubes themselves are pretty good, but they designed the amp inside to be shit,so you could just slap it in your car and go. not the best for good sound. the hatch works really well with this setup. the entire inside of it is damped, the hatch cover itself weighs about 20 pounds now,and is made of multiple layers,as is the panel in the floor,it's wood, not cardboard.as well as the material covering almost all the plastic.
