89 LX Stumbling at 55-65 mph

Hey all - great site, glad to find it.

My 89 LX with 152,xxx miles is stumbling at cruising speed. It occurs when the tranny is in OD and RPM's are at ~2k. It's noticeable as a slight hesitation, stumbling in/around that speed but clears up as you increase, or decrease speed.

Research indicates possibly the Hot Air Door and subsequent vacuum lines, but I'd like your opinions too.

The carb has never been rebuilt - to my knowledge.

    Thanks,
    Mike

You should consider replacing fuel filters (two filters) if you have not done so recently... also you should conisder replacing the PCV valve.

Uh, I'm used to a PCV valve popping out of the top of the valve cover. Where is it exactly on this car? I've done a search and can't seem to locate what I need.

Elementary question, I know, but thanks for the help.

Also, any good ideas to help determine between comp TDC and exh TDC for a valve clearance check?

you may want to check the distributor cap and distributor rotor button. If they are worn out you will get that kind of problem at low RPM.
