    prelude engine swap??

ok, ok...I know im gonna bet bombarded with "use the f*ckin search button" responses BUT I dont know what to even search for...so....for probably the millionth time ever.....can a engine and tranny from an 87 prelude swap into my 88 accord??...if not why...if yes, what will i need....or maybe point me in the right direction and tell me what to search for..
my accord is an a20a1 i believe....2.0l carb, automatic tranny config....
and the prelude donor car is a 2.0l vtec fuel injected also with auto tranny...the guy tells me the dash on the prelude has s1, s2, etc.....i guess for some sport style shifting???....Im new to the honda world so i dont know much bout em yet...but am totally looking forward to learning all i can...any guidance from you guys is greatly appreciated...

    Re: prelude engine swap??

The 87 lude you are getting has a 2.0L vtec motor in it???
Either someone swaped in a different motor... or that lude motor is not Vtec.

Not sure but the only 2.0L vtec is the K20 or the S2000 motor. oh and the F series had Vtec I think.

    all the other vtecs are B16 - 1.6L, B18 1.8L, and H22 2.2L

that was a typo on my part....i had just typed 2.0l for my car and just unconsciously did the same on the next line...it is infact a 2.2l vtec

So that leaves... ?F22? and H22 I think. Anywho best to wait for someone who has swapped in the H22 to answer your question. The F and H series supposedly share the same motor mounts so yeah...

They didn't, at least not in the lude
Thats why I think someone swapped in a motor... or the lude is a 97 and not 87.

83-87 US domestic preludes was either 1.8L 12valve SOHC carbed or 2.0L 12valve SOHC injection NON-vtec (BT / A20A3). THATS IT...

Dude, we can't help you until you figure out what engine you're getting. Call the guy with the lude or go over and look.

    Re: prelude engine swap??

dude, the engine code isn't necessarily on the sticker on the bottom of the hood. it's stamped on the engine block, usually on an outcropping right next to the tranny. like where the A20A1 is stamped on this engine (it's the lower left corner of the picture):

    Re: prelude engine swap??

well, im gonna go back later today to find the stamp on the engine...but until then, i looked up the VIN and the car is NOT an 87...it was manufactured in Japan in July of 1987 for 1988....it is a 3rd gen not 2nd...so far though all it says for the engine is 2.0L SI...but i did see with my own eyes that it is a DOHC VTEC..I did notice that the tranny has an upper mount that bolts to the frame rail behind the battery, my accord has the same holes in the same spot but my tranny does not have that mount.

    **Edit**....the engine is a B20A

    Re: prelude engine swap??

no 3rd gen prelude B20a engines had vtec. you're mixing up the vtec solenoid with the exhaust cam sensor housing used on b20a's. So no vtec!

    Re: prelude engine swap??

hmm....b20a w/ vtec? anyway, if it's a drop-in fit in the prelude, it's probably the jdm b20a for the 3g prelude from japan and therefore it will not bolt right into your accord. if it's a custom fit in the prelude, it may be the one for the 2g prelude/3g accord and it will be basically a bolt-in fit for your accord.
on this board, it's generally accepted that the prelude b20a5/7 engines are not worthwhile swaps into our cars because the aftermarket for them is pretty much as dead as the aftermarket for the a20a, their power numbers aren't much higher than those of the a20a3, and they require just as much custom work (or maybe more because of the extreme tilt of the engine in a prelude bay) to get them in as a b16 or b18, which both make bigger numbers than the b20a5/7. so no one has swapped in those engines that i know of on this board. however, you say it's a b20a with vtec, which i know did not come in the prelude originally. so maybe you could find out the donor vehicle for that or if it's a hybrid and see what kind of numbers it has. that'll help you decide. but it sounds like it still will not be a bolt in fit. you'll probably need to do some sort of customization of your engine bay.

could be a B20 Block with a VTEC head. Sounds like someone needs to do some research.
