So I wasn't sure where this would go...
Has anyone done an electric trunk release on their 3gee? I've been looking on ebay and found this
Any ideas? Comments? Concerns? Questions?

Here's mine. Mine is hooked to my alarm so i can pop the trunk with the remote.
I had to drill a hole to install it so the cable could release the latch. The bracket that it came with wasn't very good so i used two hose clamps as you can see. I also covered the cable in shrink where it came in contact with the metal through the hole.
Nice... I've always wanted to do that. But with a spoiler and dynomat on the lid it doesn't pop up anymore so I would need gas shocks or something.
Looks good though.
wow, thats sweet. looks like a good mod to work on.
my next project will have to be making the trunk open and close like on the BMWs!

next time I take my rear panel off in the hatch i'll take a pic,I used a solonoid from a honda wagon, cost me a dollar,a piece of welding wire with a 90 degree bend on the end pulls on the original cable pull lever. any honda with an electric trunk release should have the same solonoid. this was an older civic wagon, that half wagon, half van with the four wheel drive has the same one I believe. I put two bolts through on the outside under the licence plate trim. the solonoid already has two nuts welded to it. I made the two holes a little bit oversize so I could shift the solonoid a bit for adjustment. this also keeps the cable release and doesn't really modify anything. I wired the relay so the coil is always hot and the switch just switches ground to the other side of the coil. this will work with 99 percent of alarms ever made.
i think im gona do this but im gona do it for the trunk, the hood, and the gas door
and the rear seat, and im gona mount the switches in the arm rest or in the tape holder under the door
