take the lid off your air filter box, and litterally Flip it upside down, it will open up to allow more air into tyhe carb. I dont have a carbed car, but i know what it is, since my step brother does it every time he had carb.

lol its DUMB, 3 words come to mind. DON"T DO IT. All it does is let more air in...but in reality enough already gets in via the housing. I have done this on my carb and i noticed no difference. not in sound, not in performance gains. In fact if you drive with it long enough you will get dirt and sandin it. And if it rains...well its a bad idea.
And if you think about it further, your just letting engine-hot air into the system reducing performance.

    DON'T DO IT

    thats just my .02

I have heard time and time again on the big body chevelles and whatnot around here that they do this before races. They tell me that it does hurt the carb some though. Just like the guy above stated.

how can it damage the carb? maybe if your filter is really dirty the extra air coming in will force some of the dirty particals in the filter into the carb thus damaging it, but with a new filter or a k&n then its perfectly safe, hot air isnt as good as cold air but just flipping the lid is letting so much more air in that it doesnt matter that it isnt cold

well, if you are running stock filter with fliped lid---- you are a full.
the airfilter is still restric air into your carb. do yourself a favor and get K&N filter.
it does work when the temperatures out side is below 70.
when it is hot i run it through fender setup.

those intakes are made for fuel injected cars, not carbs like yours. unless you want to put alot of work rigging your own intake (theres lots of different ways and possibilites of doing this), id flip the lid. it takes what 2 minutes? try it.

pretty good, i need to get bigger pipping for it to really help alot, it pretty much just feeds colder outside air into the air stream of the carb

    Talking Re: Flipped Air WHAT?

Well, You could get a JY lid and trim it till it just fits to the filter. Then get some wide rubber seal (like you see on the bottom of some entry doors) an run that around the air cleaner housing. Now all you need to do is put an oval frame on the underside of the hood, cut a hole in the hood, and add a functional hood scoop. Lotsa nice cold air!!

Just don't try to drive in the rain.

    Re: Flipped Air WHAT?

I had pics of it back in the ezboard days :b

I had to hammer the mounting holes out a little so they would reach. Sounded nice, especially after modifying the stock carb to mechanical secondary

The flipped lid does work and won't hurt anything,It seems some people on here don't know what they're talking about.
