1989 Honda Civic CRX HF $500!! what do you think?

some dude is the original owner of this car here in Detroit...(130,000 miles, descent body)whats the deal behind these cars anyways?
    50+ MPG! and 68 horsepower?
@68 HP are these things peppy enough to keep up with freway speeds safely?
i might just buy it for the savings on gas alone!!
    give me your insight...........

well....i have an 87 civic. i think its rated at like 60hp as well....it hauls ass for a little beater. i've had mine up to 90, but im sure it could go faster. they are great cars, and easy to work on. i'd do it.

yeah it gets 45 on city and 52 on hwy...that is hella good...they are light weight cars...so thats why they can get away with that low of hp. they can go up to like 80 but that is like pushing it too much...my friend has one that has 90k and its slow...for the money it sounds good...but its no race car...wont get there fast but will save u a shit load of gas...i get 32mpg

yeah,my '88 lxi gets around 32-33 mpg on the freeway....but 50+ sounds unreal! its just gonna be a backup beater since i drive a total of 60-65 miles to work 4 times a week!
the more i read on this car the stranger it sounds... 1.5L 8 valve engine?
    never seen such a beast!
im taking it for a spin in the morning.
$500 seems to good to be true!!
on second thought,my '88 lxi was only $500 MINT SHAPE in and out with no rust with only around 90,000 on the odometer............maybe ill luck out again!

Re: 1989 Honda Civic CRX HF $500!! what do you think?

I was looking at getting one once.... slow as balls man.

the gearing was wierd, when going around a corner, i would have to put it in to first instead of second like every other stick shift i've ever driven. It was really strange the way it was geared.

For me, i wouldn't be able to drive that daily. It's just too slow... my 87 VW fox had twice the get up and go that thing had.

I'm not sure if there was anything wrong with the car though, which was very possible.

Even if they don't have a lot of pickup, CRXs are hella fun to throw around. I'd rock it.

Of course I'm lazy. If I wanted to work on my car I'd have gotten a DSM

just dont plan on making any mods to that engine, its pointless. however its great for a comutter car, for two people that is. if you do plan on building it you can grab a cheap d16z6 and make a custom turbo manifold using your stock headers

500 bucks is a great deal for a car with low mlles and if gas prices get any higher you'll be happy you got it.
