    My NA build

I am buildin up my a20a1 for all motor. I plan on runnin dual carbs, but for now i have the 32 36. high compression is also on my list. I have a full exhaust. Im rebuilding the motor right now and i want to know what kind of compression is good to have to have a lot of power, but only what the stock rods and topline pistons and rebuild kit can handle. I also plan on running a 50dry shot. I know milling of the head and or block will be req'd but how much? i have the 282 delta which is increased duration but lower lift. Im concerned about valve interference. Ideas? also does milling affect valve timing?? could it be beneficial??

milling the head will raise the compression on its own, I'm not sure how far you can go before you need to toss the head.
And a 50 dry shot is not running all motor N/A

    Nitrous is considered forced induction.

    Re: My NA build

oh, i didnt know that. what kind of a comp ratio am i gonna be looking for if i still wanna run 87octane without knock? I was thinking 11:1 Also, would i be better off looking for some forged aluminum pistons? i know i want nitrous, and ill prolly end up wanting more, so i think i will end up needing a wet kit, someday i wanna have 75-100 shot? can a stock rebuilt bottom end and forged pistons hold up??

dude 87 octane your not going to be any higher than 9.5 if your smart. but its all in the timing.... im sure u could run 12:1 with 87 if you had NO timing. but it would suck ass.

9.5 is basically stock isint it? ok, do any of you have opinions on the nitrous?? forged pistons?? stock bottom end?

    Re: My NA build

i think a stock bottom end is fine for an NA build, but depending on what you plan to be revving to (if higher than stock redline) you may want to look into pistons and rods just for weight purposes. also i would balance it all if you plan on thrashing this motor a lot.

stock cr is 9.2:1 or 8.8:1 depending on your motor.

i can see the car holding maybe a 50 - 75 shot if you do a really good rebuild, but PERSONALLY i wouldn't try 100 shot unless i had forged engine components, thats basically doubling the output of your motor. not that I dont think the a20 can handle 200hp, but that the tune might not be safe enough to try it. nitrous tunes scare the hell out of me...

    Re: My NA build

im sure the stock motor could handle in excess of 200whp but nitrous is very hard on parts and one run with a bad or marginal tune would destroy it. 11:1 compression would make a nice power gain but i wouldnt go much higher than that on pump gas. I think forced induction is easier on the bottom end than nitrous...

    Re: My NA build

def doable i think. Just be conservative with tuning and it should work just fine. You could probably do it on a stock bottom end and stock head, but id upgrade the intake mani/tb, do header/exhaust, cam etc, but you really need good managemant to run nitrous/turbo any big power adder sucessfully and reliably.

    Re: My NA build

then youll have to tune using fuel pressure and a wet kit, but itbs are a no no on the stock ecu, you have to either go standalone or convert to obd1 and tune with uberdata or crome etc.

    Re: My NA build

Anything that would be considered a "high-dome" piston kit requires 91 octane or higher. You go higher than 9.5:1 or so and you can kiss regular gas goodbye. The gains will be worth it though. A 11.5:1 cr would give you plenty of power. F*ck nitrous! you don't need it, just build your motor right and nitrous heads will be spraying just to keep up with you.

I'm also interested in a N/A build on my carb'd 87 hatch. how much do you think it'd run? I'm lookin for about 130whp (something to have some fun with before i upgrade to a more powerful car). and how much time would i be looking at to finish this build?

    Re: My NA build

Anyone know how much a set to high comp pistons are?? seems like the easiest way to increase compression. i would plan on using them with the completely stock (rebuilt) btm end. Is that OK???

    Re: My NA build

$550 ish for diamond depending on exactly what you get.

i would be hesitant to use nitrous very often even on a rebuilt stock bottom end, but i am very conservative when it comes to that shit, and nitrous 'tunes' scare the hell out of me.

    Re: My NA build

ehh i really dont like nitrous either but KMS was running low low 13s with nitrous on their stock block a20... so its all in the tune, but nitrous is harder on parts than turbos seem to be. I guess it depends what you like

    Hello,
In your last post you mentioned KMS. Do you have any information about them or know how I could search for them on this websight? I used the search function to no avail?

hmm they never posted here very much but they had it on their website but since they changed it i havent seen or heard of it at all www.kmsenginedevelopment.com I do know it was a stock short block with an ls intake manifold and throttle body, dunno what managemant but it was a wet kit, i think 100 shot?
