    Fuel Consumption?

How many miles are most of you getting to a tank - more specifically, hatchback drivers. I have a feeling something is wrong with the car as I seem to be going through fuel at an incredible rate.

What are you getting per tank w/ the A/C on? City or Highway?

    Thanks!

Any modifications to car, especially exhaust?

    Any idle problems, past present?

    What is your idle speed?

Nope, stock all around. Only exahust issue is just that it has a small exahust leak where the muffler attaches to the downpipe from the cat.

    Any idle problems, past present?
During the winter it would randomly fast idle at stop lights and such, since warmer weather has come it appears to have gone away entirely. Warms up like it should everytime. So yes to past issues, no to present issues.

    What is your idle speed?
Around 875ish with the A/C off, a tad less than 1000 with the A/C on.

    Re: Fuel Consumption?

My 87 LX carbed auto stock gets about 39 mpg on the highway, and about 37 with the a/c on. It amazes me. Never really measured it around town. Must be tuned just right, by accident, by the way!

27mpg even, A/C or not, on a SE-i sedan. I fill up every 380 miles. I think there's a leak in the fuel system or something, because it smells WAY rich all the time, but plugs are never fouled. A/C isn't a factor--the A/C works only intermittently.

I think they are messing with the gas nowadays, no one is going around checking the quality for the consumers sake... least not that I know of.

    Re: Fuel Consumption?

hmm odd. what model are you. I got really bad gas milage on my D X with the stock carb. like miles to the gallon. I drove up to bitesize's house last weekend with the 38 weber on it and was getting about 28 mpg. and I was averaging about 85-90 the whole way up. Except for the part when I smoked some ricer in a civic. That was about 115. he kept up with me to about 95. I bet he wasn't expecting that one. lol

edit: so on that note if you have a DX or LX I'd try an intense carb cleaning. seafoam too probably.

    Re: Fuel Consumption?

About 6 years ago, my '86 DX hatch w/ AT got around 37-39mpg. It was all stock, and had just the basic necessities done to keep it running, driving was 90% highway.
My '89 DX sedan w/ AT gets crappy mileage compared to that car.....I've never cracked 29, and it usually is down around 25, highway or city.
Now that I think about it that hatch's carb went out right after I bought it, had it rebuilt for $400, and was then getting the great mpg's. I have to seriously consider doing some carb tuning to my '89.

Someone recently told me about adding a small amount of 2-cycle oil to a tank of gas for older (~1995) cars, similar to the "lead" additive used for pre-1977 cars. Said new gasoline isn't the same, and it would help mileage and be good for seals and such....anyone else know about this?
Even though it's used, it's still a Honda.
