    i need help w/ alt. prob

    ok, today i took of the alt. but while i took it off i noticed that a wire from the green conector was either cut of broke off. it's the white/green or blue (cant realy tell) what i was wondering is if i go to the j/y and cut one off another car and splice them together (soder, and shrink wrap) would it be ok. honestly i dont see why. but i just want another opnion. ohh it's a efi .

    if it's green I would guess it's your ground wire, and a bad ground would definitely keep your alt from working properly. The good news is that you ought to be able to splice in another wire like you said, and make sure you check the connection at the far end of the ground wire and make sure it has good contact to a good clean surface. Bad grounds are like 75% of most automotive electrical issues.

    I dunno if a bad ground would have ruined your alternator or not....but it would be alot cheaper than a new alternator to try it and find out.
