dupi-color vinyl & fabric dye question

hey,has anyone used this shit before?
i need to touch up my interior on the '71 pontiac and was wondering if this stuff was pretty good.
i tested in it on a small part of the seats on the bottom(rear) and it seems awesome! i cant scratch it or anything! cant even tell its sprayed on!

    what do you guys think??

Thumbs up Re: dupi-color vinyl & fabric dye question RESULTS!

damn this shit works great! its amazing that it DOES NOT scratch, peel or chip!
i used it on my '71 pontiac door panels (the car in my avatar) it came out unreal! i tried my ass off to get it to fail by scratching it and its like the original out of the factory vinyl finish! saved me around $700 to get my interior re-covered!! ($6 a can...it took around 4 to do everything)
i will post pics this week!

So you can do your entire seat with this stuff? Mine aren't ripped, but they are getting wayyy sunfaded, that would be awesome if I could restore them that way.

i already tried it on my seats...this stuff leaves the fabric stiff and after like 3 months it has started to fade back to blue...try to clean the seat...i washed it wand lots of dirt and dye came out and now i think i might reshoot it. maybe like 3 light coats to make it last longer

i prepped the seats and dorr panels with alcohol and a scrub brush.
alcohol dries fast as hell and gets everything out.
i didnt try it on cloth...just the vinyl. but it works great on cloth though,my buddy done his and it looks factory.......

Re: dupi-color vinyl & fabric dye question

i've used that stuff for a few years and everything i've used it on has worked well with little or no wear. any wear is easily spray over and it matches really easily. dont think i've ever had a problem with that. i think i'm going to be using some on my grant steering wheel since the vinal has faded very quickly. i'm just going to end up doing it all black i suppose, it has red on the top and bottom but i'm not going to try and do that red again. also, i've seen that used on vinal seats and it looks pretty good.

Re: dupi-color vinyl & fabric dye question

they have specific flat finish and ones with a glossier finish. but no, i have a red upper dash done with the duplicolor vinal paint and it really doesnt create a horrible glare. especially if you go with a darker color than the red that i did. but mine still isnt very bad. now if you go with white or something bright like that you might have some problems.

I tried dying the carpet on the door panels...didnt like it at all, even tried combing it with each coat, have not seen a good looking job of it yet, not recommended (by me at least)

Re: dupi-color vinyl & fabric dye question

    whats SEM?

I want something thats not going to wear out cause it's gonna be under people's feet. i'd also like it to look like carpet still lol.. Reno made me wary of the duplicolor

Re: dupi-color vinyl & fabric dye question

Like it was ok, but for me, even when I combed it, it was still not natural, I didnt want to half ass it, i think it may also be because it is a thicker pile, but it being under your feet you maybe not mind all that much, or find a way to keep the for lack of a better word "crunchy" feel from it. Still looks like carpet.

yeah i'm not too concerned about the feel of it, just that it looks natural and doesn't wash away easily

duplicolor SUCKS! SEM all the way, my duplicolor shit is crappy looking and has peeled off, SEM is worth the extra money.
