Where is the primary filter located? I've searched and searched and cant find and answer on here. I changed the inline filter and I dont have my car on hand to look for where the other is.

Er... The PRIMARY filter is located near the left rear wheel. The auxiliary is in the engine bay, next to the carburetor.

it is by the passanger wheel well a little in it is pretty noticable
I am selling a combation swich PM me if u are intersted
Basicly i ride a bone stock89 Lx sex machine that could use a little T.L.C. Rep that S***!
It is located in a little round metal "basket," that will require a screwdriver to access. Unscrew the two bolts that hold the basket in, then drop the basket down and pull the filter out. On mine, this was a bit of a pain dealing with the fuel lines etc, but it can be done without damaging them if you do it carefully.
awesome, i knew you guys would come through for me...when i get back in pa i have to change it to try and fix my problem...it wont stay running for me..
ok..... now this is the closest thing i can find(on the search?)..... but is there a step by step so i dont screw it up?
its not hard to change it out....i went to the store and got me the 2 filters and i changed them out in like 30 mins...but i did get to use a lift but yeah...its plug and play.

when changing the fuel pump don't be a tard. I have a friend that wrestled with his all day trying to pull the tank down to change the fuel pump. I showed up at his house that night as he got the tank out and I asked him what the hell he was doing. I showed him the fuel pump block off plate under the carpet behind the rear seat. He was pretty mad. Fuel pumps on these things are easy to change and cheap to come by. I am friends with the big salvage yard in our area and when I needed one it was like $10. Check the salvage yards like they said.

update* im still running like ass..... and ive changed both my fuel filters and my fuel pump.
when it loses power, it sounds like its stuttering and kinda smells like its leaning out, buuuuutt sometimes i can stop it by pumping the gas pedal or when i hit a bump. also it seems to do it more when i take a left turn sharply![]()
might be dirt in the fuel bowl in the carb i know we have had that problem
Maybe not, try some carb cleaner.Originally Posted by skycam_313

to get to fuel bowl you have to take the top off. but if you are going to take the top off may as well get the carb off and rebuild. it is about a day or weekend job depending on your skills.Originally Posted by skycam_313

are you sure the pump runs?
I use a universal glass filter with replaceable inserts, it helps for those times when you are not sure fuel is getting to the engine. once it helped me discover I had water in my tank.
if dirt is inside the carb's bowl, spraying cleaner down the bores won't do anything to help. you need st spray it through the vents in the carb.
usually if the filters are clogged you just loose power only at high rpms. a bad pump will start off the same way and will eventually just stop working.
low rpms misses are usually ignition and/or carburetor problems or air leaks in the gaskets/vacuum lines

the thing is that the carb is fairly new..... btw i just had a valve gasket problem and my valves were adjusted at the same time ( @ 12 & 25) and i replaced the gasket ( but is there a certain way to put the gasket?) does that make a diff?
