    10-30 vs. 10-40

Oops. Came home w/ a case of 10w-40 name brand instead of the 10w-30 I've used for years. It's summer now, and I mostly drive around town with some highway work (90mph tops). I drive about 2,000 miles/mo and change every 3k. I'm thinking it's ok to use the 10w-40 through say September (I live in New England) then store it until it gets warmer, going back to 10w30 for the fall/winter/spring. Comments? 175,000 on the SE-i, no oil consumption (as opposed to the usual small oil drip on the exhaust downpipe).

10-40 synthetic is what i've been using. i like it because it's just as good for cold starts as 10-30, but holds up to abuse better when it's hot.
