Wow... i like it when tires fly at you on the freeway!

so here i am driving down the us60 in az goin about 70-75mph and all of a sudden a tire comes from underneath the car in front of me. I don't know if it fell off the car or if the car was just tall enough to avoid it but either way it hit my car, and the car behind me, and the car behind him, and the car next to him. Did quite a bit of damage to a couple of them. My poor mertyle betsy (that's my car) took the brunt of the impact though.

Holy crap!.. A tire falling off a car going about 75 would sort've um.. make a relitively big accident I would assume.. Did you lose control out of surprise or anything or just kinda, pull to the side of the road and try to realise how a tire just hit you?

Anybody with a pulse and eyesight can get excited looking at $250,000 supercars. It takes a special kind of gearhead to drool over an Accord, Sentra, Corolla or anything else made out of parts found in dumpsters, scrap yards, and along the side of the highway.

That suck, good thing your ok though. Some people would see what happened to your car as a bad thing, i look at it as and excuse to buy a cf hood and bodykit, lol. Hope you get everything fixed.

Almost the same thing happened to me 2 years ago but it wasn'T that bad. I was following a Nissan Pathfinder on the freeway. Suddenly, a motocross seat came out under the SUV. This thing was high enough to pass above it but not the Accord. The seat just got stuck under the car. Since then the exhaust heat shield makes a rattle noise, got to fix that.

That was two years ago and you just now have to fix that?
Sorry to see your car in that state, Stat.

well when something hits you that hard and makes a noise that loud i think you're more worried about my car running again not so much flooring it to find where it came from. i was more interested in whether or not my oil pan was on the altima behind me.

You don't know me very well , I would have driven till I either found the person responsible or the car died/exploded.

it doesn't look too bad, probably a hood and grill, also a front bumper, possibly a radiator support. be glad it didn't go under the car or through your windshield, it might have killed you if it had hit you.

holey crap, man that had to have been tire and wheel to make that type of damage. as everyone else said good things your ok that possibly could have been something really seriously bad espicaly with the car or truck it came from not owning up to their shit. even with that lil damnage I would soo want the owners insurance info. yeah you do have a good excuse to get CF hood now.
my car is stock it just likes sittn lower to the ground than most cars:

Re: Wow... i like it when tires fly at you on the freeway!

I was behind a car with one of those 1 wheel trailers behind it a few years ago. In the trailer was a wheelbarrow. The car hit a bump, and the wheelbarrow just lifted right out and to me, looked like it was suspended in the air. Then it was time for the big swerve. But the mental image of that wheelbarrow just hanging there has never left me.

A couple of years ago I was driving down a 4 lane road (all lanes together) when this piece of plastic, looked to be about 8" square, comes whizzing my way from the other lanes. I think it came off a truck, but don't really know. It was rotating very fast, like a buzz saw. Hit the hood and slightly dented it in 3 places, then bounced off the windshield and was gone. Very scary, because I was pondering what would have happened to me if I had been on my bike.

yeah i know right... fuckin weird is all i have to say. yeah some of your guys stories are similar experiences i've had... since i've driven around 80k miles in the last 2 years on the freeway. one time i was in my moms ford taurus and a stack of buckets came out of a truck in front of me luckily i was able to avoid them but they hit a car about 200 feet behind me and i never saw what happened to it. but yeah if i was on a bike i would have been dead. but oh well what's done is done. :-( and yes time for a cf hood lol.

    update...
got a gold hood off an 86 from the junkyard...
also got the headlight covers since mine were busted. only thing i need now is new marker lights... if anyone's got any i have a pair for 86-87 i'd be willing to trade.
    here are the pics.
the hood needs to be moved forward about a couple mm's but i had to go to work so it just got thrown on.
