Hmm it should work then. The EDM gauges does have the small C connector dont they? Maybe you should try to swap out the speed sensor parts with parts from the USDM cluster.

The top one is the EDM cluster, the bottom one is from a USDM LXi

I tried to swap the USDM board to EDM cluster, but the EDM cluster does not have a place to screw the eyelet connection in.

Yeah, I've seen some of the gauge clusters that are like the USDM and the European here. It's just that one has an amplifier and the other doesn't

So you are saying that besides the appearance of the 2 different USDM clusters, there are also different electronics? Does that mean there are actually 4 different types? any ideas on what to do?

That is weird. You should, if necessary, take both set of gauges apart and find out where that USDM wire goes and check if that also exists in the EDM cluster. If it doesnt you might have to swap around the affected pieces of electronics and hardware in the clusters. If I could just see the wiring diagram for that USDM cluster I could be more helpful, but I only have the EDM diagram.

HEY i finaly got my digital dash installed thanks to your howto. everything works. you know how theres those threee japanese things for the trip computer..well theres a fouth one. i think its total fuel left in the tank...only works when the fuel sender is hooked up. my dash is off a manual transmition car so it doesnt have the PRND lights. also i noticed my spedo is out a bit. whe travelling at 100km/h it says im doing 115 is there an ajustment to correct this. When i get my camera back ill take photos of mine

Nice, congrats! You swapped the entire wiring harness from a donor car then, or did you make your own harness? Did you install the fuel level unit yet? Yes there should be a fuel calculation, but mine doesnt work because I havent got a hold of the fuel level unit yet.

My speedometer is almost excactly dead on, that's with 205/40 17" tires. You can't adjust it.

ok mines all done...fuel level sender and all. the box is even mounted in its correct place. i just swapped the dash wiring loom and ran 2 new wires to the fuel sender. i hope they are wired up right. aanyways it wokrs i just finished it right now. it looks sick.

im running 195 60 r14. what if i upgraded to 205 60 r14 my mate has some i can get for cheap...??

I think you need to change the profile rather than the width to change the speed.

the profile is percentage of the width, so going with a wider tire and the same profile, the tire will also be taller

I still needed the fuel level unit for the gas tank, but because my stock gauges didnt work with OBD1 i decided to go ahead and mount them afterall. (to those in doubt btw I can just add that the 6k resistor speed sensor mod for OBD1 works perfect, the datalogging reads out almost excactly the same speed as the dash

it means that you can only make your VSS work with OBD1 if your car or gauges have cruise control.

if you have cruise you have a speed sensor, even my dx in stock form has one, it has a magnet with an output to the pc board, small reed switch inside of the speedometer head opens and closes creating pulses, the non cruise clusters just have the diode missing on the board, and a terminal missing from one of the plugs to the cluster
