Just got the engine/transmission pulled from my parts car (88LXi 2dr) in prep for my 5 speed swap into my 89LXi 4dr.
My engine hoist. Got it from Harbor Freight retail store for $120.

wow those pictures suck! I'm sorry guys. The wife had our good camera today so I had to use the old one (I remember why I bought the new one).
I will try to get some better pics.
PS everything else off the parts car is up for sale:

Well first things first, I'm gonna remove the 5spd tranny from the donor motor and rebuild it. Then gonna pull the motor/tranny out of my 89LXi 4dr auto and swap the 5spd tranny along with new alum flywheel, good clutch, pressure plate, and bearing (thinking clutchnet from everything I've read). I'm also planning on doing oil pump, timing belt, water pump, and anything else that looks worn (that will be 500% easier to repace with motor out of car).
Sound like a plan?
nice bor!!!!!!!!
yeah that sounds like a good idea...i also have an extra motor that i was going to use for the DX but then i found a LX-i for 500 bucks...it was cheaper to buy the car then to try to convert to fuel injection and 5 speed. yeah chaning stuff while its on a engine stand makes it way easyer. are you going with performance stuff? how many miles on the engine?Originally Posted by chainz

Nice hoist for the money, how much was shipping? I personally like to check the compression readings before dropping a motor in after yanking it out. Good work.
.
i love ur engine hoist!! wish i had 1
the pulled motor has 220k or so on it - but it's not going back into a car anytime soon. I'm just gonna swap the 5spd tranny to my 89LXi 4dr (currently at about 183k). IMO the motor in the 89 runs very strong - but I may check the compression just to make sure (that makes one more tool I need to buy).
I don't know what shipping would be on the hoist - I picked mine up at the Harbor Freight store in Columbus.
Check this out - their price was $159; it was on sale online for $129 so I asked and they said they would honor the online price if I just printed out the page and brought it to the store. BUT THEN at checkout the guy says he can give it to me for $99 IF I buy the 'extended warranty' - now usually I would be like NO WAY cause those ext warrs are usually a big rip-off, BUT the warranty was $20. So I saved another 10 bucks and got 1yr warranty on it (std was 90 days).
w00t!
PLUS if you look around online you can easily find 10% off coupons for harbor freight (sometimes 20%). Just google 'harbor freight coupon'. Here is the one I used:
