Lxi/Sei vs Lx/Dx Brake caliper and bracket

Well I was in the hopes of swapping the Lxi front brake calipers/bracket to my dx and the problem is, the bracket itself is soo thick that it does not have enough clearance to go between the Knuckle and the rotor. the bracket holes line up perfectly fine.

my question is, Is the Lxi/Sei rotors have a different offset than the Dx/lx ones? Cause if so, then i might be able to use the brackets and calipers. I really need to get this thing done before the PA meet and also my brakes are totally gone and im in the middle of swapping my sei rears, prop valve and master cylinder.

any help would be greatly appriciated, also if anyone has pics for comparison (even tho i have the parts with me) please do post.

i hope you are not talking about the rears. There is no how-to for the front, which is what i am talking about. I hope someone else can input more, Mike where are you???

You will need to upgrade your front rotors first.
To accomplish this i am not sure if you need to change the hole arm with spindle or just swap your caliper/bracket, pads and rotor. You'll need to find out from other DX or LX users that have done this. The upgraded parts will come off an 88 or 89 Lx-i or Se-i.

You will need to upgrade your Master cyl with one off an LX-i or Se-i 88 or 89 as well.

Your proportioning valve from the above years and models.

And last would be getting the rear disks off the 88 or 89 Se-i.

    2) Entire front suspension knuckle. The arm is basically the same as the one you're taking out, but the rotor and caliper are bigger, thus the whole arm needs to be replaced to have the proper caliper bracket mounting spots. Basically the same thing as the rear pictured above, just in the front instead. Any 88-89 LX-i/SE-i will work

i hope you are not telling me how to do this swap and what parts are needed. I have everything that is needed for this swap along with the rears and i know how to do this.

My question was Is there a difference in the offset between lxi and dx rotors?

the flex hoses on the dx/lx are different then the ones on the EX-i. The brackets dont line up and dx hoses dont flow a much fluid

I did not know that the hoses were that different on the lxi and the lx. hmm thats a thing to remember. Part numbers are different, so i might have to just get the braided lines then.

lol its a known fact that the calipers are different, the Dx/lx uses a single bolt pivot type whilte the lxi/sei uses a twin bolt design.

I hope I'm not Mike you mean since I'm not going to be much help. I don't have much experience with the front DX/LX brakes. I don't know about the offset of the rotors. My understanding is that the mount geometry is different enough that the most effective way to do a complete LXi front brake swap is to replace the upright with bracket and caliper as an assembly.

You only specifically mention the caliper and bracket. Are you planning to use the LXi caliper with the smaller DX/LX rotor? If that's the case what do you hope to accomplish?

Re: Lxi/Sei vs Lx/Dx Brake caliper and bracket

well im using lxi rotors, with lxi caliper and bracket, the knuckle so far is still the lx/dx one. I can get the knuckles, but i am lazy to drive to the next state and pick it up from Jim. I ordered my parts today, i am gonna cross my fingers and see if the offset is different, if it is, it would be great. and i am not doing what zupher (or whoever it was) did. no grinding and nothing of that sort.

oh yeah i know that, the 86-87 efi was the same as the 86-89 Carbs. The ran the same kinda rotors and pads including the knuckles as u mentioned. The whole front is gonna be upgraded to a 89 SEi/lxi front including caliper, bracket and rotors
