    No Air Cleaner

Ok, I took the air cleaner off because I thought I was going to get the money to install a cold air intake, but I didn't, and now I cannot find the C tube for the Air Fitration system, and I have to go places, I'm gonna have to drive into town today with no air cleaner and I dont like that, I need to get a Lude Cone Air Filter for the time being until I can get the money and time to install a cold air intake.

THANK GOD the roads are damp, I'm afraid of what happens when he drives home, time to get the Onan Cleaner and clean my heads and pistons so nothing gets fucked up. My brother took my car to work today to get some things fited onto it, and right now the dirt road that I live on is damp, so no dust was created, but I'm afraid of what happens when he comes home, I allready drove the car on this dirt road when it was dusty, but I was driving 5mph.

I can't believe you fucking did that! at least use a sock! I hope your motor is not blown and is only acting up from the sensors getting funky readings!

I tried to tell him that the air cleaner is off and to take it easy on the car, but he wouldn't listen. he said he heard a knocking inside the engine and then it just lost power.

I don't think i believe this. For one i have seen many people run at tracks with no filter and i wouldn't recommend or do it but i had a damn weaponr fall off on me cause it kept rubbing and drove all day with no filter and i'm sure a fair about of dirt made into the engine....but thats what cleaners are for. Knocking sounds like an oil problem. For your car to knock and it be because of an open intake you would have had to suck something huge down in there like a damn bird or something. Not mention that your car doesn't have that kind of suction power. All i could see is dust and some dirt particles getting in there but when its 1000 degrees in the engine i don't think for just one day that will even come close to stoping the pistons. Hell it would take a fair amount of metal shavings to destroy an engine. I've seen metal sucked into an engine and it still ran.....take it the walls are scored and it slips oil past the rings now but it certainly didn't knock and die. Somebody is trying to pull the wool down over your eyes. I stand behind that no simple removal of an air filter for a day could destroy your engine 100 percent.
In the end...it doesn't even matter.

But dude, the engine is blown, it wont even start now. I highly doubt it is a head gasket because he said it made knocking sounds and a loud roar like someone downshifted on the highway with no gas, after that he said he looked back in the mirror and there was tons of smoke comming out of the back of the car, and the exaust, and there was even smoke comming inside the car, he opened the hood and there was smoke in there
It might just be piston rings, I dunno, he just now told me that he was able to drive it to where he was parked at, but when he got there, the anti freeze was boiling, there was smoke comming out of the dipstick, the oil and water light went on, he thinks its the head gasket, which caused the anti freeze go get in the oil, but he thinks a valve is knocking. Please Help

i drove around for a month with no air filter on the carb, just that screen, before I rebuilt the carb cause I had to squirt starting fluid into it cause I had no accelerator pump. My guess is your brother would have blown the engine even if the air filter was on.

Thats what I'm thinking, I just got my ass burnt cus everyone said that its all my fault for racing, when I've only raced a few times, and havent raced any time soon, I took the car out the other day with the air filter off, and it was soo happy, it felt like it wanted to take on dodge vipers, I'm gonna pull the head off, then have someone turn it over to make sure the pistons are still moving, hopefully its just a valve and a head gasket. Lets Pray.

    ***UPDATE***

I started the car, it was a lil hesitant, I can hear the clicking, the car is idleing about 500rpm instead of the norm, the engine is shaking too much, it usualy just sits there when running, then I shut it off, and took the oil cap off, and exaust smoke came out.

<Edit> Also there is some smoke comming out of the exaust, its a big exaust so there is like all sorts of smoke grouped up before the tip of the exaust, when the car is running, that lil PCV has smoke comming out if that, and I can kinda notice some smoke comming from around the Distributer area, I cant realy see it tho.

Can I just unbolt the exaust manifold, and the intake manifold and then unbolt the head and pull it off?

When loosening the head bolts do it uniformly. Something like half turn each for each bolt then repeat. You wouldn't want to warp the head. If you've got the factory manual take a look at that. If not, let me know. I'll review it and post anything you might miss.

I've heard it might be easier to leave the intake manifold on. I haven't done the job myself, but you may want to do a search through old posts and take a look.

my car barely runs... I run without a fine filter, but do run with a metal screen like the stock carb has just to keep bolts/rocks/small animals out.

my friend Henry did it, I have a few diff pictures he did of my car, he made a picture of my car like that, but in a real life atmosphere. it looks hella tight, I think he used Paint Shop Pro 7, HOPEFULLY when I get my new 3G, I wont have to change that picture, cus he took his time perfecting it, cus that is the picture of my car at that angle, I know you've seen it, where there's grass on the bottom.

<EDIT> I think he's off somewheres making it an animated .Gif image, he allready got the picture to fade into diff colors. Here's the picture I designed while he was finishing that one.
