it doesn't matter if you are going to gold plate it and put diamonds in the tires, what do you think that automotive paint is going to stick too? that crappy primer. when the primer starts lifting off the car body, what do you think will happen to the paint over it? you might as well plan on sanding off everybit of that crap, get some good automotive primer and start all over. your base coat will never stick too it. the best reasonable cost primer is the nappa crossfire from Martin Seymore,it cost around 80-100 bucks a gallon without a discount, plus the cost of the activator. you better know what you are doing though and get a cartridge respirator. you probably can't buy the paint over the counter anyway, knowing Californias anal retentive pollution control laws.Originally Posted by NeonAveoMetro

you cant paint over raw mettal dude you need the metal to be protected ie primer and then the paint sticks to the primer
go do this go get a can of spray paint and an alumine foil spray it and let it dry and then razor blade it youll see that it will just slid off same thing here you could problly scratch it off with your nails
no anything that is bare metal has to primed with eithier self etch primer,or epoxy primer. regular primer won't stick properly or protect properly over bare metal. you need to sand all that crap off but try not to sand through the factory paint. you didn't sand off the factory paint did you? if you have small spots of bare metal, get some of the duplicolor self etch primer, follow the directions on the can,and use it over the bare metal,it's acid based,so it etches the metal. thats the only rattle can I would use,but it needs to be topcoated, it's not made to resist weather, only go under other paint or primer. did you clean off all the old dirt on the car,and clean off all the old wax with a prep cleaner, before you sanded? if you didn't you're in a mess, you just sanded all that wax into the paint. you'll have more fisheyes then long john silvers. you'll never get all that silicone out of the old finish now.Originally Posted by NeonAveoMetro

CAH, you have to stop worring about post whoring and take some time to do research. First off theres no point in primering your car because if you get it painted then they will just sand it all off and lay down new primer anyways so your just wasting time and money, a paint shop wont go over someone elses work. Just save your money for other things. What are your goals with this car, do you want it to look nice, handle well, be fast or a little of all? Take some time and figure out what your actual goal is, then take the necessary steps to get there and if you want a paint job take your car to macco and get one. The first thing you should do is make the car reliable, then worry about moding it. Make a list of what you would like your car to look like and what parts you want and things like that, then as you get money get the parts and install them, and dont try to do things all at once take your time. I have been on here for over 2 years and just hit 1000 posts, you have been here 8 months and have over 2000, stop doing so much pointless posting and go threw all the threads and do research, honestly thats the only way you will learn anything and the only way you have a chance on building a nice car. Try going a few days without posting, spend the same amount of time each day as you normally would on this site but dont post. Now while your on the site not posting go through as many threads as you can and just read and learn, i dont mean the threads in the OTX section and crap like that, i mean read the technical, how-to, performance, suspension and stuff like that. Now I gaurente after those few days of reading you will know a lot more and be able to help others with their questions and be able to reply to someones post without just saying "pics own you maing" 600 times a week, and more importantly you wont have to worry about anymore threads turning out like this. Thats just my advice.
i am doing the prep work so i cant paint it i not takeing it in i doing everthing myself
i have read most of the topics on this forum when i 1st joined all i did was read and did not post for like a week
this car need a alot of engine maybe even a head gasket
i may not keep the car if i find a hatchback 3gee

Well then save the money on the next car. No point wasting anymore $$ on this car. I understand that you think it might help the resale value, but like other said....Originally Posted by NeonAveoMetro
IMO I'd choose a car with faded paint than primered![]()
