leaky FUEL INJECTOR (s) take a look at these pics

i just noticed this...i dont smell gas (yet) while driving and i get over 400 miles to the tank so i know it cant be leaking too bad....if i rub it with my finger i can smell gas obviously but its barely damp to the touch......
is there a seal kit for these?

Get new injectors and new seals. I can almost gaurantee you have cracked injectors and new seals wont fix the problem

I am not sure about what year injectors work, but I can tell you it is a pretty simple job. Just a few bolts, lift up the rail (some injectors might come with it some might stay in the manifold. Replace and MAKE SURE NOT TO PINCH THE SEALS AROUND THE TOP AND BOTTME OF THE INJECTORS. Put everything back the way you found it. Make sure to remove the metal snap rings (around the electric connection of the injector) to take the injectors off. I would also recommend loosening the banjo bolt on the fuel filter to relieve pressure in the system.

I think when I did some seals the torque on the fuel rail seemed critical or else you will get leaks. I followed the book and on my second try no leaks. I concur thats is the body that usually seeps a little.

It's pretty staightforward. I'd replace the seals first, then look for leaks afterwards. Injectors can get a little pricy.

Remove the negative battery terminal & releive the pressure on the fuel rail before popping the injectors out. If you pull the intake off, replace that gasket too. Lube the seals up lightly with some grease before installing. Good luck...

Another good thing to replace is the fuel pressure regulator also, if it isn't working good, it can cause seal & injector failure.....

I think I have the same problem as the person that started this post. Could anyone confirm that these stains are from bad injectors? If they are, as I suspect they are, then what is the best injectors to replace them with? (By best I mean good fule milage/reliable/maybe a little sporty but not so much that they would compromise my 400 miles per tank)

go to autoparts store and buy injector seals.
it is easy to do and it is worth the money.

your injectors probably fine, you just need new seals.

Is there any way to be sure it's just the seals? or do I just have to replace them, clean off the existing stain, and see if a new one forms? And how can you be sure it's just the seals?

yeah... all 4 look like that. So do I just replace the seals and check later to see if it's still leaking? and if so, how long should I keep checking for? All help is appreciated.

Re: leaky FUEL INJECTOR (s) take a look at these pics

For teh record it was bad injectors and not just seals, I got it checked out by my mechanic. And no, he wasn't just saying that to get me to spend more because he knew I was just asking so I could do the work myself. Plus he still gets paid for an hour's labor since both injector replacement and seal replacement take only 1 hour. So any increase in price is just for parts(huge increase). So, let this be a lesson to all of you out there. If your injectors look like mine, they need to be replaced. Not just the seals.

Re: leaky FUEL INJECTOR (s) take a look at these pics

Ya If i had checked the board the other day I would have told you it was your injectors. I had the exact same problem, and my mechanic told me he had the same thing on his 2g lude, and it was the injectors.

As I was pulling mine out the other week when I replaced them, 2 of them basically fell apart during removal. So i took the injectors from my old 3g and new seals and in about an hour I was done, and my car runs a lot better now too.

most of the times in our cars this problem is an injector problem.
mine looked like that, and they were leaking between the plastic and metal part.
this leak is not higly dangerous, but ... you never know the day when it get bigger.

Generaly new seals are a must be, but seals are at the top in the rail, and
down in the intake, so when it looks like its leaking from the half You're going to replace the injectors, so be prepared for $$$.

    have a nice ride

What does it mean when there's a lot of crumbly gunk inside the manifold around the injector holes?
