theres a vacuum(drivers side) pull that opens a second set of butterflys inside the inake at high RPMS. Those runners are longer and hence make a little more power in the hi rpm range.

sorry, the secondaries need actually vaccum to stay closed, hench the vac charge canister to close them when there is no vac available at higher rpms.

when you hit about 5k rpm the ecu opens the vac line going to them letting the spring open them.

if you disconnect them they will stay open all the time. make sure you plug that vac line tho, i will leak constantly lol. you may lose some power in the lower rpms.

the distributor works the oposite way, it needs vac to advance at higher rpms. so it uses vac from the charge canister as well. not sure actually at what rpm the ecu does this.

you will see a vac pod attatched to a wheel on the drivers side of the intake under all vacuum hoses, just unplug the line from the pod and plug it with a screw. the line i mean.

leaving them open all the time youll notice a def tq loss under 4500 rpm, having ran the car both ways id say keep it hooked up so it opens at 5k, its much more optimal then leaving it open all the time imo

when i grow up i wanna be just like lost4awhile, I really dig some of the great knowledge posters we have here. This one I must add to no disrespect to you lost,,, but have you seen the size of those new factory muffflers, some are as big as a ford c4 trannny., however I have not been under a 06 acura or mistu evo. so maybe they get by somehow. I was looking for a new design glasspack that wont start rusting and spitting out chunks.
As for cutting your (NOw speaking to the thread poster)
times, yours dont sound bad for almost stock four banger fellow, practicing and perfecting your launch, shifting and concentration on keeeping the car in the staightest line possible to the finish. when your shifting dont start bad habits like looking around, moving the steeering wheel, , and you can cut another .5 or 1.0 off your time.

    well I made some runs

18.3 and 78 mph that was last week at night 54 degrees F

    pretty bad

I went ahead and got a new cat exhaust and muffler since the old one was Original got my money outta that deal. I noticed little driveabilty differance but :

I ran a 17.61 at 81 mph same strech of road to near my house as well which helps.

somewhat of and improvement.I might mess with the timing a little and see what I can get outta it.
