ya im with messy here. these old cars shouldnt have the millions of hoses in the way which is a huge advantage. honda has made a realllly huge difference in the 80's with everything
I hear that the 81 Accord Engines will drop into those. Basically it's the 1800cc version of that engine. From what I've skimmed past online, they have the same engine mounts. Toss one of those in, with a Weber, Cam, and Exhaust, and you'll probably get about 90-95hp. Thats pretty good considering how much those little Civics weigh. Probably give new Civics a run for the money. Plus they've got TORQUE!!!!!
There's actually a lot more aftermarket for those than there is for the Accords too.
not bad for $100
you should do what WRXDRIVER99 is doing to his '78 civic

Looks as though its had a hard life, but I'm sure it'll be a rewarding project seeing the transformation through its stages.
The above mentioned 1.8 engine conversion sounds like fun to be had!
Good luck with it.
take good care of that little machine. I like those civics. At the Honda dealer where I work, we had one of those civics. It was mat black, 1.2 hondamatic. the interior was mint and it was a weekly drive for the oooold lady that owned it.
when the car turned 25, Dutch law says you don't have to pay road tax anymore. the old lady was so happy that it still worked great she brougt us a big cake, with a big mat black civic on top made out of sugar.
2 days later the lady came back with the civic. she had had another look at it, and decided it was time for something new. when she walked out the door the proud owner of a brand new Honda Jazz 1.4 ES CVT, she gave the keys and pink slips to my colleage, Eddie, "Eddie when I bought the Car 25 years ago you were the one that cleaned it when it first got here, now you're a mechanic and you have looked after it ever since and kept it in good condition. I want you to have my car."
come on everybody, It's a good story right? and all true.

....
sorry
..
I'm a bit overwhelmed
..
such a lovely story
I'm sorry..
niks nie nooit nie nee
nothing not never not no
Yeah! That is such a good story!
Thats such a cool way to get a new car. I don't think I'd ever get rid of it. I bet it is in perfect shape too. Sounds like she took great care of it.
The great thing too, is how long people work for Honda. Ever since I started going into the dealer to pick up parts(5+ year ago), the same bunch of people work there. Honda must really take good care of thier people. It kinda shows through with how well they treat the customers, and how the customers love coming back.
Dude that car is ONE UGLY PIECE OF SHIT!!!! What were you thinking when you bought it? Were you stoned? Got hit on the head? No matter what you have no excuse for buying such an ugly piece of shit if i was living near you i would knock some fucking sense in too you and do you the huge favor of offering you $500 for it so you could forget about making the biggest mistake of your life. Think about.
Coming soon, wheels, drop, carbon fiber and if i ever decide, paint.

Ok mr. no-sense-of-humor if you had read that right which i know you didnt, you would know that i mentioned i would offer him $500 bucks for the car. Why? Because i happen to like old vintage hondas. Too bad around here they are super rare. And im being honest bro if you lived closer i would offer you $500 just so i could restore it myself. They got 2 really nice 70s civics on ebay but they are too far away from me. One of the is over 2k:

Yeah okay so maybe you're right and I didn't read it right. Har har I got I didn't know you like the older Hondas. And it's hard to tell that you're being sarcastic, when I can't hear your tone of voice. Please accept my apology.Originally Posted by 89l_x_i
I agree, It's really hard to pick up a sarcastic tone when you don't hear someone speak. I thought you were serious to. If you're going to write down stuff like that again, make sure you make it clear you're making a joke..
niks nie nooit nie nee

The sarcasm sounds more like the $500 part and less like the flaming for buying the car.

was given a benz that was babyied its hole life it was owend by one of the local mercadiz mechcanics from the dealer.... sadly the owner had passed and left it to his daughter who let her husban drive it nearly into the ground.. poor thing rusted to hell interior in near mint condition motor is in good shape . my mother wound up driving it to belize were shes had to get some frame work done dam rust but its still puting around... and you would not belive how many 3gees are down there my dad tells me
Ok ok maybe that was a bad joke. No harm done. My bad In any case honda civic accord you got a sweet deal on that car. I would do a complete restoration including a rebuild of the engine and tranny if i were to keep the car as a weekend toy. However if you intend of racing it that accord engine sounds like a good idea. Hell if you ever get the funds for it drop a b16 or better yet a b18c5. I drool just thiking about a first or second gen civic having a type-r motor
