Prelude manual transmission in 89 LX-i?

    Hey guys.

    I've got an 89 LX-i 4door auto Accord. (87 Accord LX & 95 Odyssey EX too)

This car is just awesome, $500 Craigslist special w/ seized alternator (which my father & I repaired where I bought it, then drove it home).

Motor is spectacular, strong and doesn't use ANY oil at all. Awesome at 226K miles.

It's an auto though like I said. The auto is in good shape, I take care of it.

However I'm looking to swap the auto with a stick.

Will a Prelude manual transmission work in it? If so what year.

Also any idea other than eBay where I could pick one up?

I really want to get this car going 100% it's just too sweet. Beautiful too, navajo red metallic poly which I want to repaint after I get the 2 rust spots (small) behind the rear wheels repaired (new metal welded).

    Thanks guys.

If you find prelude with EFi, the tranny will bolt up with no problem. you will be able to use accord or prelude efi flywheel and clutch.
But if you get carbed prelude 1.8 L motor, you can still use the tranny but you will have to use carb lude flywheel and clutch. carb lude had smaller bellhousing, so you have to use smaller flywheel, clutch and probably starter.
everything else should work just fine.

Congrats sounds like a Good Deal!

    We besides eBAY

Junkyards, and try some of the japan engine import places.

otherwise you shouldn't have a problem finding a LXI/SE-i Tranny.

BTW Welcome and POST PICS OF YOUR CAR!

I have a prelude tranny in my 98 LXi and I really like it.
A couple of gears are shorter, so it has a little better acceleration.

yeah Mars is right the fuel injected trannies have shorter gears but the final gear is still the same with the carb...http://www.accordproject.com/transmission.htm
