    Aluminium Valve Cover

ok, i had bought this a long time ago and never did anything with it except take the paint off it. so i thought i would get it powder coated, but the guy i took it to didnt think he was experienced enough to tape off the raised parts and do the rest. anyway, i've decided to polish it out. here's what i've done so far. it now needs to be polished out just a bit more but is almost done.

    Re: Aluminium Valve Cover

yeah, i need to do a bit more to it, but really not that much. it went a lot faster than the wheels i had been working on, which i still havent gotten around to finish. but yeah, i think i'm going to be putting this on by at least monday. only thing is that i'll have to keep up on it, but that shouldnt be a problem once its polished out. then i'm going to want to keep it nice. something i found that made taking the paint off really easy was soaking the paint with brake fluid. then it just comes right off. my brakes instructor had told me that.

i used a hand held size rotory polisher to start, then went to a larger polishing wheel that attaches to a drill. i plan to go buy a bench polisher, looks like a bench grinder. the wheels i was working on had so many problems, oxidation took its toll so its been hard to get them looking good. here's a link to my wheels. just skim through and check out the pix on both pages.

Damn man that looks freakin nice! Is it hard to keep clean when it's polished? I know my red valve cover gets dirty very easily... I'd almost rather get a polished valve cover just to get a little hot rod respect, instead of the typical ricer red and the looks people give you when you're getting teched at the autocross track...

    Re: Aluminium Valve Cover

here it is ready to put on.....but the parts stores are closed. and the one autozone that stays open to midnight just so happened to not have the valve cover gasket in stock while every other one in town does. aint that a bitch! but yeah, tomorrow for sure. this plus my header will look nice. now i just need an air cleaner that'll look clean.

    Re: Aluminium Valve Cover

yeah, it was off like an '86 prelude i think. it was the one with the suicide opening hood. anyway, got the gasket and put it right on when i woke up, which was like an hour and a half ago. so yeah, here it is. looks good but i definately need something to dress up the air cleaner. just havent seen any rectangular ones that look good. the ones i find i like are online usually. this vavle cover has been something i've been wanting to put on for a few years so now i'm pretty happy with it.

I need a valve cover like this. The LX-i cover isn't bad but the carb cover sucks so much.

    Re: Aluminium Valve Cover

i think i paid like $8 for this valve cover if i remember correctly. if you find them, you ought to pick up more than one. fix them up and sell them. too bad i dont know anyone locally that has a 2nd or 3rd gen prelude or accord, nobody to swap parts with. althought i know plenty of people here that like cool stuff. here's an idea. the black steel valve cover that came off my car is in great condition. i was thinking of sand blasting it and selling on here. with or without the studs for the air cleaner wouldnt be a problem. possibly powder coated, but i dunno if anyone would really want a plain jane valve cover like that fixed up?
