today i was driving and then it started to over heat, zo i had to limp it home. i found the culprit is a cracked hose, but when i start it it goes from 1200 rpms to about 2000 rpms and keeps goin back and fourth, what could be wrong?

you have to let the air out of the cooling system....follow the upper radiator hose and by the dizzy there is going to be a air bleed valve. also make sure you are using 50/50 coolent

thanks for the reply, my idiot mechanic friend thinks its cause i took the downpipe off the intake, and i know that wasnt it thanks alot again

How to bring the coolant level up:

1. Let the engine cool down some. Add 50-50 coolant-water to the coolant bottle, until the level is halfway between the low and high marks on the bottle's side.
2. Take off the radiator cap (not when the engine is hot, it will blow out in your face).
3. Start the car and let it come up to temperature, adding the coolant-water mix to the radiator until it's full. As the air bubbles work through the system, you might have to do this more than once.
4. While the engine is running, after it's come up to temp, open the coolant bleeder nut to the left of the engine, by the thermostat. A little geyser of water will come out, spitting because of the air in the system. Keep it open until it doesn't have air in it anymore.
5. Close the bleeder valve, put on the radiator cap. Shut off the engine.
6. Try to dilute the antifreeze mixture that's on the ground from the bleeder geyser. It's poisonous to pets, and it's sweet, so they'll lick it up and like it, until they die. It doesn't take much for them to get sick.

well replaced one hose and another one has a leak, i guess thats cause i drive like a maniac cause i am learning stick. so how can you check if the head gasket is blown, i know a compression check, but what are the tools and procedures
