    new to fourm

well to start off my name is Dennis im 17 and im new to this fourm .i bought a 87 lxi 5 speed, its graphite gray for 500 dollars off one of my sisters friends who swore up and down the motor was gonna blow up because the temp gauge was on hot. needless to say, it needed a 12 dollar thermostat. so i think 500 dollars was a steal. ill post pictures of it when i get a new camera.

You got a steal on that car. So what is it a hatch, sedan, or coupe? Like hash said, make sure to use the search function before asking questions.

Good deal. Not good the engine got hot. I've seen motors get hot that have lost the tension on the piston rings. Other than that , keep an eye on it.

You should be ashame of yourself for taking advantage of a girl, and a friend of your sister! I would have offered at least $1500 for it, so I'd be able to sleep better at nights.

Well, this a pointless post. A $500 honda is a $500 honda, don't be jealous

Obviously, the price for 20 year old cars vary considerably. A $500 3gee might be fair market value in one case, but a $3000 3gee might be fair in another. He admitted it was "a steal," and "the owner was a girl...didn't know what she was talking about."

Where I come from, that's low, especially doing it to a friend, and worthy of used-car salesmen. If a friend did that to me, I would've serious reservation about my friend's character and integrity.

she swore that the motor was gona go he bought it not knowing if it was or not he dident say that he new what was wrong before, so its not wrong to buy a car from a girl how says the motor is gona go, and come to find out its just a thermostat i only paid 300 for each of my cars and my 89's motor was replaced in 02 with a jap import that had 30K on it and it had 60 when i got it so i got a 89 accord with 60k on the motor for 300 bucks not bad if u ask me and the guy i got it from spent like 5000 to do the moto i have reciepts and i dident know that it was replaced until i used the haynes manuel to so my clutch (the recipts were in the book )

i dont think anyone can accuse him of stealing from her especially when nodody here really knows the condition of this car. We need pics to verify if the car is worth 500 or possibly more.

And if it is worth more, the girl didnt want to fix it and she just wanted to get rid of it. As a result he possibly got a good deal because she didnt want to deal with the problem.

im not ashamed of anything, she told me $500 for it. its not like i bullshited her out of her car. i had bought the car not knowing that it was the thermostat just knowing that it could be over heating from what she told me. and plus she would have junked it if i didnt get it cause she was moveing out of state.
