Led Guage Cluster Project

i know, that's why i'm concerned! the backing of the two guages are pieces of plastic with two stages of paint on them. if you try to scrape just the greenish blue off, you can damage the black surrounding it.
what this means is, ultimately, you cannot change the color of the glow through the tach and speedo. the other portions of the cluster just use white bulbs with condoms for their color. this was much to my chagrin, as i dissected the cluster only to find the backing illumination for the speedo and tach are already white (which was the color i wanted to convert to)
that's why i'm still curious how you'd make a pure, all-white guage cluster. i'm not saying it's impossible, i just gave up personally. if you could do it, then i'd buy the product...
edit: furthermore, this is the entire reason why i could not convert the coloration of the lettering on the dash controls. the dash controls have little pieces of plastic on them that take white light from the above-pictured lighting cluster and shine it through green paint. that's why our interior looks green; not SOLELY because of green lights, but rather due mostly to green paint on plastic.
edit: the pictures seem to disprove my fears, but i am unconvinced. i feel that white LEDs would be subject to this plastic tint more than blue. especially since blue and green are close to eachother as it is. i'd be curious whether red would fall victim to it, too. though, i'd still think only white would succumb.

I used a parts car cluster and you can just sand the backing completely, the black from the front blocks light except for the number parts, i dont know why the paint in the back is that important, takes a while to sand though. Just sand in the area with the numbers if your too concerned.

If you sand the led case, you will get much better difused lighting. More like a traditional bulb.

I did my entire dash with Blue leds about two years ago.

How many LED's did you use per thing and what sizes?

I soldered mine directly to the circuit area of the dash where the bulbs would normally connect. I used 5mm LED's and sanded them to give better light dispersion. I used white led's to shine on the front side of the dash area and painted parts of them black so they would not wash out the blue. As far as how many I use goes, I just added mor untit the light looked even. I used about 5 or so for the speedo 4 or 5 for the tach and two for the temp an fuel guage each. I then replaced the other indicator bulbs with 1 led each.

just doing my guages, Apparantely the ones made by Denso can be altered to be white, although the ones made by NS can't.

If anyone wants the cluster with white guages just let me Know I can do them all for you with a cluster for $150, and all the knobs too, If you send me your cluster with knobs then I can do it for $100.

ill make it work its a project car so anything goes and i know some guys that will do it and make it work and i know some one that got some off a civic and got it on their 89 accord and i think some one on here has civic si gauges

they are just white face gauges reverse though as soon as i get the 3rd gen euro ones for my car ill take them off my car and i have a pic in my garage if you wanna see them
