    Led Guage Cluster Project

A SPECIAL THANKS TO MYKWIKCOUPE FOR SENDING ME THE PARTS TO PRACTICE ON!

If you would like this mod done, send me all your little socket holders including 5 extras of each size so I can make you spare ones, just in case they blow out.

Price on this project will run $100 and will be well worth it. It takes me a long time to solder the led's with resisters to these little sockets. And considering each led costs me 20-25cents and each resister costs me around 10 cents, it's well worth the asking price. I will be doing this to my gauge cluster as soon as I get the body work done!

    5MM WHITE AND 10MM BLUE LED'S

WHITE IS FOR THE REGULAR GAS, BATTERY, CHECK ENGINE. BLUE IS FOR THE DIGITS FOR MPH AND RPMS.

    Re: Led Guage Cluster Project

Just got this done! WHOOP! WHOOP!
I will post my updates every day. I will be done with the whole cluster in approximately a week, then I will ship it to it's previous home, "MYKWIKCOUPE". Congratulations MYKWIKCOUPE, you get a damn good deal for providing me the doner cluster!

The big 10mm plugs into the bigger cluster and supplies power to the smaller 5mm white led's that shine on the front of the cluster! I'm getting excited!
    Led's without using a flash!

Custom led socket with resister! These are heat shrank to protect the bair spots of wire on the inside of the socket, and then they are soldered to the metal posts in which they pick up the electricity from the circuit board!

What I will be using for this project not including the little sockets! There will be approximately 30 leds in the whole thingy!

CAH, the people that need a how-to shouldn't be doing this sort of mod without a kit, such as the one bitesize is providing. the ones that don't need the how-to would most likely buy their own LEDs bare and do the work themselves. so far, this is one of very few full LED conversions. i know sabz5150 has a full LED conversion. he spent many hours and quite a lot of money on his conversion. $100 for a full kit is a good deal.

Note the fact that you also need soldering skills if you want the contacts to hold strong.

    Re: Led Guage Cluster Project

indeed. you also need lots of other little things like heatshrink and wire to make it work. all of this adds up to make this one hell of a deal for anyone, even the hobbyists.

    Re: Led Guage Cluster Project

$100 is a very beautiful price for you guys. I imagine it will take me 3 or 4 hours to get just one cluster done and ready to ship from the time I start to finish. And remember: I will be sanding the tops flat and that takes more time. I've already put 10 hours into this project just thinking, practicing, and trying to figure the best way out. This mod can't be done by anyone wanting to go and buy a solder iron and try it out. It will take great skill to get the led wired and put throught the holes and making it so the leads don't touch and cancel out. You will have to insert the wires through the holes and then solder the resister on. So it's not like you can just go out and buy led's pre wired and pre resistered. I make these from total scratch and have been soldering for years now. Professional quality is what I'm aiming for.

I bought all my led's, heat shrink, and wire in a huge bulk. I have over 2,000 led's,1,000 resisters, about 500 feet of heat shrink, 300 feet of Cat 5 cable (24 guage) wire. I got the wire for free from work. So it would be damn near impossible for anyone to do this themself for under $100. There are over 25-30 led's in this gauge cluster.

    Re: Led Guage Cluster Project

sabz5150 did. his is all 3 color LEDs, so he can change his colors. i remember him spending lots of time and quite a bit of money with his. i would venture a guess in that it was more than $100 in parts alone.

Good work Bitesize, put a few together and I'm sure you'll get them sold since tax season is just around the corner thats when most of these guys start buying stuff. Take deposits and ship out when you receive full payment. That will put christmas cash in your pocket.

Im going to raid the salvage yard soon.

Just made these all. I think the price is going up, it's long and tedious work.

7 big 10mm, and 19 smaller 5mm. They just need to be made now.

It shouldn't be much, like 30 bucks for just them. check engine, bettery, oil, brake, door, cruise control, gas, both turn signals, bright headlights, seatbelt.

Long wire is the seatbelt light, shorter wire is gas light. The smaller white rubber with the mounted light is the cruise control, i will probably just remove the soldered joints and solder an led in.

I did similar thing while back, using the original socket for the LEDs, except I'm using 2x5mm LEDs in the bigger socket.

Im just playn it safe since its not my set. The inside heat shrink really isn't necessary, but I'm all about customer service.

    Re: Led Guage Cluster Project

Just did the cruise control light...

I won't do this on my car, since i have no cruise anymore.

Kind of a weird way to do this light from the factory...I need to clean it up a little, and then it'll be ready

Also: I'm halfway done with the project and I'm finished with the cruise light, gas light, battery light, and the lights that shine on the guages. These are the two circuit boards the cluster uses, now I just have to solder the led's to the stock sockets.

    Teaser shot!
