    5 Speed Case Disassembly

Does anyone know if the gear sets to a 5 speed manual be acessed without removing the entire transmission? Can the cases be split? I'm working with an '87 LXI. Thanks!

Pull the transaxle out. You need to lay out all the parts in order on to tackle that job. Would make life much easier.

I'm gun shy at this point as reassembly of the transaxle on the bench allowed for the selection of all gears, but with installation back in the car 2nd does not engage. I'm afraid I'll end up continually removing and installing the gear box.

A Haynes maual goes into more depth on how to do it. Can pick on up a local parts store. I can't see working under the car with what is involved to remove & replace the gears. <looking at my manual>

I'll give the Haynes a shot as my shop manual is a little weak on details.

The you can download the OFFICIAL Honda Service Manual for free. Hit the search button and search for it. It is by paul or something like that. It goes into detail on EVERYTHING your car has.
