    Re: Fmu ?

    What ecu are you running?

The only reason I ask is that before you spend money on an fmu, boost retard, safc etc. look into getting your stock ecu chipped and tuned and or converting to an ecu that can be chipped and tuned. it might be cheaper and definately more reliable in the long run.

Around here localy theres two places that I know of that will socket and chip your ecu and dyno tune the car (on a dyno of course) to the tune of about 400-500 dollars. Not to mention ther is alot of people out there fluen in crome and such that will do tunes on the road.

I say add up the money of all the parts you need with the fmu boost timing retard and safc and look around local dyno shops and ask around. Cause im about 100 percent positive that it wil run you about the same to chhip your ecu and have better results.

Oh and the shops around me that do it have their own widebands so that would include a wideband in the tunning price. Cince you live in Cali I know there should be alot more tuners out there than her soyou'll probably have more options.

Of your ecu cant be chipped and reprogrammed price out a obd0>obd1 harness, proper obd1 ecxu, and gm map sensor plus the price of chipping and tunning. You'l be surprised how for the same price you could have a better setup. I think you said you wereplannign on turboing a b20 so Im pretty sure youd like to keep that bad boy as long as possible before damaging with a bad tune aka hack.

im sorry I didnt answer your question but I figured I remind you about this option if you havent already looked at it cause its definately the way to go.

I am going OBD-1 i have all ready started that and i all so have a HyperTech Shogun Tuner so i can control my fuel and timing with it now i just need to know which FMU to use form what i been reading the to main things that kill a turbo motor is to much boost or going lean i don't need either one of those.

    Re: Fmu ?

u dont need a fmu if u go with bigger injectors/fuel pump/ chipped ecu/standalone etc....

    FMU=fucks motors up

Nah first hand experience though... Every friend i had with a fmu has blown there car up on little boost very quickly... i did it on my first setup too and it did the same thing..

I have turboed 6 hondas now ALL WITH CHIPPED ECUS and not one of them has blown up... My civic has 170 thousand plus on the engine 10psi and nitrous and its been on there for over a year and a half and the engine is still perfect!! Its all about the tunning!!

10psi daily. On a safc/ 450cc injectors and a fuel pump for about 7 months or so. Then it started to creep up to like 11-12 in the winter time and i didnt really bother to change my timming and tune (stupid on my part) until one day it started getting blow by in the number 1 cylinder i think it was and i just decided i was done with it!

Did u ever tear it down to see what was wrong with it? Im like dead postitve the ring lands on the number 1 piston was toast.

If you can adjust for fuel with this hypertech you dont need a fmu just run some dsms and get a good tune and you'll be set.

is that unit progresive or it is fixed settings?
I still say chipped ecu would work better.

    Re: Fmu ?

Looks like im going to have to say this yet again. DO NOT USE AN FMU. It is absolutely shitty managemant and is a piss poor bandaid for a REAL fuel system and engine managemant. I would say as the absolute minimum for low-med boost levels is a piggyback fuel computer like an SAFC or a supplimental injector controller and extra injectors. Then you need to control the ignition timing with somthing such as an MSD Boost timing master. You can eliminate these things by going obd1 with a chipped ecu and get tuned.

    Re: Fmu ?

well it looks like it will do the job. Being able to adjust both fuel and timing at every 500 rpm is pretty good.

Still the question how does it wire up?

If this thing is as good as it seems you definately wont need an fmu just larger injectors.

Is this piece an older one that came out a while ago?
I kinda remeber a shogun tuner a few years back.

In the brosure for it does it say it sends the stock timing and fuel signals to keep the ecu happy and it modefies the outgoing signals only?

The only reason I ask is because like the apexi afc's the more fuel you add with it the computer compensates by removing timing or somethign like that.

Wondering if this does the same?

this will do absolutely jack shit to your timing. The PJO ecu does not control timing at all. It might work for fuel though, ive never messed with one

    Re: Fmu ?

if you are running a P28 it might advance your timing under boost (this is bad) because of the sensor signal modification, however, if you have a chipped P28 and you use crome or somthing, you can set up the ecu to retard timing and add fuel proportionate to boost. This is both the cheapest/most cost effective and most accurate and reliable managemant. The trade off is that its not as easy to install vs an safc or some other piggyback.
