I had to shave the larger 2 of the 4 spider gears in order for the phantom grip to fit properly.

and a couple of shot's of the clutch.

acouple of quick little burnouts to make sure the pg works.

yup all it is is that little box with some hard ass springs. the steering is alittle weird, it feels normal when you are at a stop but on a roll the steering wants to stay centered. Imagine if you'r alighment is off. the car wants to pull right or left. now the steering doesnt want to want to turn it wants to stay straight.

this is going to be a whole new learning expierance!

manual trannys arent as bad as it may seem,if you read back afew post's i was alittle intimidated myself. the hardest part is figuring out what the hell they are talking about in the haynes manual.

the tranny i wouldn't mess with is an automatic.

I looked at the axle last night and the part with the splines, and houses the bearings at the tranny shattered. I love lifetime warranties.

congratulations! I think that once a few more people get high hp turbo setups going we ought to get a driveshaftshop mini-group buy going. maybe they will give us a discount if we order 5 sets lol.

it's pretty nice to actually see what's inside the trans, the only other pic's on the site are on picopop's build thread. i am glad to add a few to the board.

well gentelman, saturday night the 3g had to be towed home. I am alittle frustrated and my wife is pissed. So i wont be fixing the car right away. the lsd had nothing to do with it so don't sweat that. reverse and 5th gear wont engage, it was the worse thing i have ever felt. Somthing in the tranny litterally bombed, it seemed like the front of the car even lifted.
    Here's the story:

me and some friends were chasing down some colbalt's and neons to pull a race. i was balls to the wall in 3rd gear climbing this big ass hill in full boost and bam no more acceleration nothing just reving. i was like wtf! the trans wouldent go into any gear.
so i coast into a parking lot jump out and look under the car for oil pouring out and nothing.shut the car off cycle through the gears 1 2 3 4 are ok but rev and 5th are fucked up.so i decide to drive the car home and before we can leave somthing explodes under the hood.
i thought the batt or somthing exploded that shit was loud. the fucking top rad hose blew, Damb i was pissed!

for peace of mind the tranny has to get tore down again.
on a good note that clutch and flywheel made a huge differance.
i was keeping up quite well with my friends 480 horse and 600+ horse mustangs.

    oh man that sucks!

what were your water temps (do you have gauge?) 5th gear is not uncommon to lose from what I understand. When my wife had a 3g she lost 5th while cruising 75mph on the freeway and when she pulled over she stopped, everything seemed ok in 1-4 while 'stopped' so she tried to move again, the tranny got stuck in either 1st or 2nd, and would never disengage. fun stuff. not sure what happened, but it was pretty scary according to her.

also goldyaccord experienced something like that while doing a hard 1-2 shift, the trans just LOCKED, and he skidded 30ft to a halt, and had to get the car towed away lol.

DAMN! that blows well with all that power i'm surprised something did'nt give out earlier. well i guess you gotta have to beef up all the components cooling, ps, tranny gears. axles.

yup our trannys dont like alot of power or being mistreated. i remember when i put 5-30 semi synthetic oil 5th gear overheated. and it got stuck in 5th gear....but now i put some honda MTF and my 5th gear works now....i like cheap fixes but right now im doing a whole tranny rebuild.

Nice work, Makes me want to install my lightweight flywheel. I've been wanting a LSD, but i think I'm going to contact OPM about a LSD before i settle for a Phantom grip. Sucks that your tranny broke hopefully it will be something easy to fix.

yea guy's the flywheel makes a big differance, it seems like i didn't have to downshift as much climbing hill's.

i still havent done anything to the car as of yet, i need a break.lol

bullard i think this trans is done. i have one left and it needs a syncro kit.
anyone know where i can get one?

let me know how opm works out for you. you'll love that flywheel.

i had a nice little chat with JohnnyO on trannys and he said he was running a stock tranny and never had any problems.

    re: The Journey 89 turbo'ed-----89T

i took some time yesterday and fixed the tranny.
i was amazed when i draind the oil, there were hardly any metal shavings in it.
the weired part is that when i pulled the trans apart i didn't see any thing wrong with it. well except for 5th gear was alittle chewed next to the syncro.
after an hour of trying to figure out why it would not shift into rev. i decided that somthing in the shift mechinism was tweeked. i pulled the assembly out of the spare trans, and installed it, slid the case on and it was golden.
all the gears shifted with ease.
i put the trans back together and reinstalled it, road test time.
    she ran beutiful.

    good to hear!

I was a little worried since this happened RIGHT after the install of the PG. I sure wish I knew enough about transmissions to install that PG and modify the gears so that it all works.
