    getting started again. 89T

well as most of you know i felt my old thread was, well getting old and it was all over the place.
I am going stay more focused on what i am posting here.

I have not done anything new to the car in a while but the last couple of days has changed that.

Rendon-lxi kinda kicked me in the ass with out him knowing it.
I have been following his thread and I feel he is doing well with his accord.
That's what got me going again.

Money is tight right now so everything i do for a Minute will have mid to low budget.

I have done a few new things but i have yet to install them.
Most of you know i built a catch can and I'll post some finished pic's here. I also tapped the valve cover for a second breather line and gave it a make over. I'll have to go with some cheap lines to get started with.

I will do a basic how to on the catch can which anyone with semi-basic hand tools can make.

The finished product that i will show only varies on the inside with a baffle. Sadly I didn't get a interior pic while it was split in half.

    So here it goes.

I went with a flat black Finnish and it came out pretty decent.
eventually i will add 2 more fittings in the front of the valve cover and the catch can for additional venting.
Eventually A second catch can that will be sealed with only a drain valve and 2 fittings 1 in 1 out will be added for the crank case evacuation. The second can is going to be vacuum assisted via a slash cut tube welded into the waste gate dump tube. that's the plan anyway.
    heres some pics.

I am going to make a cut below the new fitting and slide in a baffle to separate it from the drilled holes.
On the opposite side i will drill additional holes in the same manner as the ones pictured.

Sorry if this is a stupid q - but whats the purpose of the catch can? Replace valve cover breather?

it used to release pressure in the head and crank case and to collect the blow by oil and unburnt fuel that would normally end up back in the oil pan or the intake manifold. Adding extra lines helps it ventilate better.
On a turbo application there is not a good vacuum source to pull the gases, so you ventilate it to the atmosphere.
on an n/a car you could use a vented or non vented (in line)catch can.

i know i am missing a bunch of stuff in there but here is a good red on the subject.

Thanks Tdurr, I need to re-focus on what i started doing on the re-work of the car.
I started making a conversion harness to run a obd1 ecu and if i remember right it is almost done. I also bought a de-soldiering iron so i can chip my ecu. I just need to pick up a chip kit from www.phearable.net. and save some cash for the Neptune rpt.

when all that is in place i need to remove everything and re-run all the wiring including stereo and alarm wiring.
I may leave the main a20 plugs alone so pulling the engine will be easier.

i also want to re-run all the ic pipe.

all in due time my friend.

almost done with the venting. I need to go get welding wire.

As you can see i drilled a bunch of holes for more venting and cut a slit with a cutoff saw so i could drop in a metal plate to act as a baffle or a wall between the vent holes and the vent fitting.

These are just a close up of what i did.

A shot with the plate in place and the next one shows the de-burring of the cut's.
when i get back this evening I'll install it and test it.

this evening i got the chance to clean the valve cover, install it and the catch can.

I ran the car and reved it and so far it is happy. it's raining so i did not get a chance to check it on full boost.
the lines are clear so i was looking for oil and any condensation leaving the valve cover. there doesn't seem to be any as of yet..

I am alittle embarrassed, the charge pipe needs paint.

Ummm thats really interesting bro...Drilling the holes on the baffle itself would make sense. IF it works then ill have to do that also...Im going to to that vented catch can setup when i do my new setup. I think its going to work great. I yet need obd1..i got the p06 virgen ecu...a civic dizzy but i wont be using that. so just jumper and all the goodies that go with it...just have to get extra cash.

Thanks man.....you do one hell of a job also.

Question....where did you get those fittings from and that breather? im going to make this catch can setup...but you need to do a how to bro LOL

On the engine tuning: Neptune now utilizes the Moates Demon, a new line of onboard chip, freaking awesome. Onboard datalogging, 16x accessible calibrations, no chips to burn, no emulators to worry about. Realtime tuning, 100%.

sorry if i posted in the wrong thread, that is part of the alarm harness and part of the power harness for some of the stuff in the car, the tool box is actually my battery box for an odyssey battery, has the battery brackets in it,main breaker, maxi fuses, smaller fuse blocks, and a diagnostic voltmeter

you forgot boost control and the tuner view.

That thing is fkn awesome! the boost control features are unreal. It is one of the best tuning hardware/software out there.

    You sir are welcome.
yup! i had a brand new center section and stage3 63ar exhaust housing sitting in a box.lol
But I had to throw in a 60ar compressor housing and smaller wheel.
the up side is that it spools a hella lot faster and will support up to 350HP.

    Re: getting started again. 89T

There was a bit of progress today.
I took the car out just after work went for a pull and pop. I blew a coupler apart. lol
I fixed her up and went for another pull, from a second gear roll on low boost and when the car hit 5000 rpm i blew the tire's off. fuuuuck, i forgot how fun this car was.

I was filled with confidence so i boosted on a stang and then i realized there was a cop 2 cars behind him. lol The cop just kinda looked at me and shuck his head.

That's what i get for screwing around hahaaha.

The valve cover and catch can seem to work great. It did not push any oil into the lines.

OOH, I shorted my fourm name. It was time for a change.
