I have been wanting to do a compression test for a while now, but i don't know where to get the tester itself? Would my local parts store have one?

yeah, harbor freight can hook you up. they practically give tools away there. or if they're not in the area, they sell them at wal-mart too. or ebay if all else fails. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=39224

I've seen a compression tester at O'Reillys for about $20, which comes with two fittings & fits most spark plug hole applications.

Yea i have seen that today. They had a $15 one a $20 as you mentioned and a $42 one. So the $20 one should be good?Originally Posted by ddude2uc

Whats a good pressure reading on a compression test
Just take a spark plug out & go up there to make sure you get the right one by matching the diameter & pitch of the threads. No need to get a high dollar one.Originally Posted by russiankid
Preferably around 178 psi (which is max) & no lower than 135 (lowest)..Originally Posted by picopop
With the highest & lowest readings no more between 15-20 psi..
