carb idle problem? i dont know for sure

i've searched different threads, but none related fully to the problem i'm having. i had a leaky carb gasket that i replaced and i just finished putting the carb back onto my car. i connected all of the vacuum lines as best to my knowledge. the car's been sitting for a couple months though. anyways, i tried firing it up and it took a few minutes. it finally fired up, but it was revving very high at idle, around 3,000-3,500, and smoke lots of smoke came out of the tailpipe. any ideas? im no honda tech, so i dont really have any ideas besides idle adjustment. thanks a lot for reading this and any ideas that you may have, i really appreciate it.

i changed the carb gaskets, so it's sealed a lot better now. could that be the reason that it's revving so high? because before the carb was set to run with the vacuum leak, and now the leak isn't bad at all.

I would check any vacuum lines for leaks.

Try this, when you start it, it should rev to about 2,000rpm, tap the gas and it should go down to about 1,850rpm. Then it will become higher but tap the gas again..should go down. Otherwise idk.

i know it SHOULD do that, but it's NOT doing that. it starts out at like 2,500-3,000, then just starts going up slowly from there. i dont know what the problem is either, it's drivin me nuts

Re: carb idle problem? i dont know for sure

everything seems to be running REALLY well now, besides it idling a little too high. it's good though, all i really have to do is lower the idle a tiny bit. thanks a lot for the help though, i appreciate it.

Re: carb idle problem? i dont know for sure

I noticed that when i didn't drive my car for about 3 weeks it ran like crap. So i just drove it some more(about 40 miles) and it was fine except the idle, so i just lowered it a little bit and it has been fine ever since. So try driving it around a bit.

unscrew the throttle controller on the left side of the carb... it's right under the choke puller.

Should help lower the idle for the time being while you try and track down the problem.

That sounds like it to me, fast idle unloader is seperate from choke unloader, or pull off which ever you want to call it.
Very bad design in that area.

The smoking, my car will do that once in a while, mostly when it wants to embarass me. I do know that if I add a little 5w30w to the mix, it spits it right out. lol.
