Why do you think it's not working?. The car is not running good?

The EGR valve allows exhaust gases to flow back into the intake manifold so they can be reburned in the engine. It opens and closes with a single vacuum. You need to disconnect a big ass pipe connected to it that comes around from the exhaust manifold, then undo 2 bolts, and it should come right off.

Shouldn't cost that much in labor to fix. But the part could be expensive.

    Re: Egr Valve

    heres how to check it

Start engine and allow it to idle.
Disconnect the vacuum hose from the EGR valve and connect a hand vacuum pump to EGR valve.
Apply approximately 150 mm Hg (6 in. Hg) vacuum to EGR valve. Vacuum should remain steady and engine should die. If this occurs the EGR valve is working properly. Remove hand vacuum pump and reconnect the hose, test is complete.
If vacuum does not remain steady and the engine does not die, then replace EGR valve and retest.
Should vacuum remain steady but the engine not die, then remove EGR valve and check for blockage, also check manifold for blockage. Clean and replace as necessary and then repeat test.

took a whole year but i got the 100th post
yet only took a month to get the 200th

    Re: Egr Valve

if you have vacuum pump, you can check if the valve holds the vacuum.
if it does, it is working just fine.
If it is working just fine, you can remove it and clean it with carb cleaner.

    Re: Egr Valve

if your idle is going up and down, say 800 to 1300 rpm up and down it might be the cold idle valve. Does it only do it while its wrming up and stops when its hot?

    Re: Egr Valve

if the car is cold and RPM go up and down it is your fast idle valve.
if RPM go up and down when the car is warm it could be your EGR valve lift sensor. You should be getting ECU code.
when ever car acts like that it means something is wrong and it is in safe mode. look under the driver seat from behind and see if you see any blinking lights.
