    Quick tranny Q

I am about to get a new trans for my 88 LXi, the 5 speed blew up a while ago, and I want to make sure that I am getting a 88 LXi tranny to replace it with, are there any stampings, or marking that would indicate this and if so where are they?? Thanks!!

im not sure...look up in the manual....they have 2 types of trannies...the carb one and the EFI one...the efi one has shorter gears but the carb one has taller gears...if you are into MPG get a carb tranny they should swap right in.

Or if you wanna have fun, go with a Prelude tranny. They have shorter gears and final drive to give your car a more seat of the pants feel.

I all ready know all the info about the ratios, and the 88 LXi has the best one for our cars (For a turbo app.) And from what I was told carbed trannys have a different CV spline count, so they wouldn't work w/o new CV's.

    Re: Quick tranny Q

how come when it's an older member no one tells him to search?

the code is a2k5 and there should be some signification on the engine block but i don't know if it is stamped on the trans... but if it is thats the number to look for.

edit: looks like it is stamped on the tranny as this is the actual trans code not a portion of the engine block... so yes it should be on the tranny.

Thanks for the info, I'm buying the trans from out of state, so I needed something to tell him to look for, any idea where at on the trans?? I did do a little searching for the info, but came up empty handed.

actually if you are going turbo, you want lower ratio, carb tranny has lower ratio.

by lower ratio means that at 3000rpm in 5th gear you will be going faster with carb tranny than EFI one.
lower ratio widens the speed, it slows down your acceleration but with turbo you won't have as much wheel spin.

Thanks for stealing my thread! No just kidding, but any idea on where those numbers are?? I plan on sticking with my 88 LXi trans, I want the shorter gears, I use the car for auto cross, I even considered the teg hybrid but that would be too low for me. mabey just the 5th.

OK based in my 1986 Accord Service manual there are two model #'s

    Carb Trannys are #A2Q6xxxxxxxx
    Fuel Injected are #A2Q5xxxxxxxx

The transmission # is located on the casing where it meets the block, looks like near the timing mark hole.

Tomorrow night I can post a pic of the 1988-89 Service Manual.

    and on the CV's

NO the DX/LX and LX-i/SE-i use the same CV's, the only exception is the Drivers Side Axle is different Between Automatic and manual Tranny Accords.

So if you replace you LX-i Tranny with a DX/LX Tranny you wont need to swap the CV's to accommodate the Carb Car Transmission.

Anybody in okla Need a manual tranmission with under 150k miles on it I can get them for $100 a piece if you pull it. I know where there is quite a few fi and carbed transmissions.
