    Alternator belt

I have searched and still have not found my answer. I have been worried that my alternator belt is to tight. After replacing the water pump, i replaced all the belts and tensioned them correctly. After a few miles, my alternator belt would squeal in the morning for about 3 seconds. So i tightened the belt a little, and it stopped. After checking the tension, if i push on the belt between the water pump puller and the alt. pulley, it flexes a little. I do not need to apply a lot of force to get it to flex. This sound normal or is it to tight? It does not flex a lot tho...

if it flexes about 1/2 inch, you are fine.

yeah - seems like I usually have to tighten my alt belt a little more after I work on that part of the car.

    Re: Alternator belt

I had a sqealing belt for about 2 or 3 months. I always thought that it was my power steering pump belt because the power steering pump pulley had a wobble. After replacing the power steering pump three times (the second one also had a wobble), and tighting my alt./water pump belt, I have not had a squealing problem since.
