    HELP w/ turbo !!!!!!

Ok well i installed my turbo and piping. I have basically no issues with the fitment. BUT I can't get the car to run well at all... I barelly got it to idle. My boost/vaccum gauge reads the same as when i was N/A(17 vaccum). But when i rev the engine i get nothing but what sounds like backfiring, it will not rev up smoothly. It is just bouncy. i tried to mess with the ignition timing by moving the distributor and rev it up but nothing seemed to help. Another thing, i filled up the tank this morning and now i noticed that there is like an 8th to maybe a 1/16th gone... enough to where i can tell there is less anyway. My whole setup consists of....

    -SAFC 2
    -wideband air/fuel ratio gauge(aem uego)
    -autometer boost/vaccum gauge
    -dsm 450 injectors(cleaned and balanced)
    -dsm blowoff valve(stock)
    -MSD 255lph fuel pump
-adjustable fuel pressure reg(fuel psi is currently at 32)
-fuel pressure gauge(thats how i know above)
    -teo4 turbo
    -elijahs old old manifold.
    -msd 6al box
    -msd blaster 2 coil
    -ngk plugs/wires

What could be my problem...the sucky thing for me is that i only have one car to drive, so i planned on getting this done in one or two days... It's going on three and still no car. HELP ME OUT HERE!!!!

    Re: HELP w/ turbo !!!!!!

    are you getting ECU light?
did you connect the map sensor as it should be for turbo setups?

recheck everything, i think your problem may be with turbo itself. how old is it? may be intercooler cloged up. it sounds like something is blocking the airflow.

    Re: HELP w/ turbo !!!!!!

Well i just got the turbo from junk yard and it spools good and doesn't visibly leak. As for intercooler i have a new on in the car but before i use it i hooked up piping directly to intake. So there is NO ubstructions in the air way.. As for no boost at all i saw about 5 pounds while on the street in front of my house. As for the MAP sensor the check engine light did go off for it and that was with 2 check valves installed, so i put one more(large) one and i didn't get that problem again... I got some info from a friend and he said to set SAFC to -45% all the way across the board at Lo throttle, lower fuel pressure alittle 5-10 psi and start there...

    Re: HELP w/ turbo !!!!!!

should that be -45% across the board.... if you have it at 45% across the board you'r dumping a shit load of fuel in to the engine.
does the car smoke? a clean white or black?

sounds like your dumping too much fuel. Im wiling to bet your exhaust blows out black sooty smoke and reaks to hell.

You need to have that tuned there buddy by someone who knows what they are doing.

Are you still running the stock ecu with vac advance distributor?

    Re: HELP w/ turbo !!!!!!

white would be fuel atomization meaning you'r waaaaay of tune.
black would mean you'r closer to tune, but you'r still really rich.

this is the part where you take you'r time. too much fuel can wash rings, not enough could mean detination.
my guess is that you'r at least 90% off tune right now. get it back down to -45% work on you'r idle, and starts first, moving only the first 2 or 3 rpm settings. then work on normal driving, once you'r convinced that normal start and normal cruise is tuned then you tune boost short burst's watching you'r wideband. 12.5 would be a conservitive tune.(slightly rich)

you'r btm should be set around .75:1psi to start with.

i forgot to ask, you do have a wide band right?

i am no master tuner by any means but this should get you started.

if anyone has more to add i invite you to.

    where are the pic's?

    Re: HELP w/ turbo !!!!!!

Well i got it to run great on my own, i am very smart and mechanically inclined.. But thank you guys for all your help, to try and answer some questions i am stull running vaccum advance. I do have a wideband AEM UEGO. I set the SAFC to -50% and -45% on low throttle gradually getting to 0 % aroung 4000 rpm.. And for High throttle(15% TP) i set it at -42% Gradually getting to 0 % around 4000 rpm. The air fuel ratio is at 13.5 ish on the freeway at 3000 rpm at 5 lbs boost. I just got a full 2 1/2" exhaust made today and it is really quite too... The DSM blow off valve is quite too. And best off all no check engine light(yet), i drove it for a good 15-20 minutes(street and freeway).. Pics will be up soon, give me 30 minutes.. As for the BTM i am not currently running it.

    Re: HELP w/ turbo !!!!!!

needs more fuel to richen up your AFR's 13.5 is way lean for a boosted AFR (imho).

13 - 13.5 is more of an NA tuning target. I would shoot for 12 - 12.5 AFR...

how is the off boost driveability of the car? I may pick up some 450's to throw in, since they are so cheap. Are you dumping fuel on idle even at -50%? Also, what did you end up keeping your fuel pressure at? I have mine set a lot higher, but I might dump it down to 34 psi or something along those lines, i am running like 38 psi at the moment.

arent injectors usually operating under 42psi or so of fuel pressure?

the regular fuel pump for EFI sends out like 28-32 psi i cant see how injectors run higher than wut the pump pushes.

I have 450's on it and the fuel pressure is still at like 32-34 psi. As for rich idle i bet it is, but i am going to gradually work on the tune as the days go on... for economy... It is way rich right now.

just curious but what cam are you running and what is the compression of all the cylinders? 17 inches of vacuum seems low but maybe you are running a performance cam?
