find an exedy/daikin clutch.
they usually retail for about $89-$109 for the clutch kit for our cars (disc, flywheel, pilot bearing, throw out bearing, and alignment tool is included in the kit)
and IMO theyre the best replacement clutch for our cars.
The reving down thing might not be just the flywheel. It may be built into the emissions controls or some such thing. I remember reading it in my Prelude shop manual; something about improving driveability. I would have to look it up again.Originally Posted by hotdoghogie
Anyway, the stock flywheels are heavy. I had mine lightened by the machine shop that also did my block and head. They cut the entire flange off the back side of the flywheel; along with the timing marks. DOH! I had another plate to compare to so I just scratched in some new marks. I never weighed it so I don't know how much difference it made, but I expect it was significant. If you have this done make sure to have it balanced as well.
FWIW, I have no problems with driveability, even with a majorly stiff pressure plate. In fact it seems more stall resistant now then ever before, but that's probably more due to the engine rebuild.

o realy... i think i will leave it stock... i hear it wears out faster if it aluminun or machined...
how would i get my car to rev up fast and down faster... al these other cars rev like indie cars... ares is just so slow like down syndrome cars...
my friends 300zx has a stiff ass cltuch i never get close to stalling it
i dont get it?Originally Posted by MessyHonda

Eh? I can see an aluminum flywheel wearing out faster but a lightened stock one? I don't see how.Originally Posted by hotdoghogie
Do you have a carb or EFI? If a carb try unplugging the vacuum dashpot that holds the throttle plates open. Make sure you plug the line before trying to start it up. See if that helps any.

Teh aluminum ones don't wear out they last longer as the pressure plate surface is made from wear resistant steel, and is replacemeable if need be from the manufactureer you buy it from. Just get everything from clutchnet i use there kit and i was the first person to get there kit and make everyone buy from them because there so good, yeah there not the cheapest but damn they ain't the most expensive but the quality is ten times better than anyone on the market and i know because i've broken every clutch made for our car. The ally flywheel is a good mod really helps the revs and the engine braking is phenominal when driving norma you hardly every need to touch the brakes, it's one of those mods that you just have to get use to once you have it ain't a problem. I have a lightened stock one as well but lighteneing them significantly reduces strength and with a lot of drag racing they eventually get micro fractures that start breking the fly wheel up which can cause quite a mess if it suddenly lets go. If your just going to drive like a old granny and never give it some and never mod the engine than spend $100 or less on clutch and just skim the flywheel, if not buy from clutchnet and even if you tear the arse of the car it won't be the clutch that brakes it will be your gearbox or engine!!!!

Stage 1 (green) pressure plate from Clutchnet $85Originally Posted by hotdoghogie

Resurfaced/lightened flywheel from local shop $100
Add some for shipping and you have a good solid clutch and flywheel for $300 that will hold up to some abuse. Another $100 and you can get a stage 2 or 3 pressure plate for more grip. Or if you're mostly staying stock just get an OEM replacement and put the money elsewhere.
