    A few performance ?'s

I have been out of the 3gee modding fever since I started my EG project last july of last year. I will get back to my 3gee as soon as I possibly can, but for now I'm really close to getting the EG back on the road again before paint, alarm, etc. I just need some opinions. So here's a couple of quick ?'s for you guys:

    1) Here are my 16" tire choices. Which of the 3 you guys most prefer?:

    Falken RT 615's (priciest - $400 set):

    Hankook Ventus R-S2's (mid-price - $350 set):

    Nitto NT 450's (cheapest - $300 set):

    2) Is it ok to upgrade my injectors to dsm 450cc, stock, without a 255lph walbro pump and upgraded ECU? ...or should i wait till i can upgrade my ECU (air/fuel management) and get a walbro pump? Reason I ask this is I got a hold of a set of dsm 450cc injectors and was wondering if it was ok to put them in yet without messing anything up.

    Re: A few performance ?'s

yeah the hankook r-s2's are supposedly the direct competition of those falken rt 615's....hmmm.....but i wanted to know for sure before i drop this kind of cash on tires. as for the nitto, nitto is a great brand for tires and i don't mind getting those nt 450's for the price and excellent wet weather traction.

well i love my rt-215's one heck of a tire. but i don't use them for daily driving, are these tires going to be used for daily driving? the Azenis are known for a low life span. but if ur going to have another set of rims and tires i would go for the Azenis

    Re: A few performance ?'s

well, the EG is my toy...just drive it on the streets for fun on my days off or take it to the track on sundays for some autocrossing. i have a daily driver for school and work. i take the car to school at UTi sometimes to work on it and do some of my part installations.

i built the EG mainly for performance handling. i currently have an asr rear subframe brace, eibach sportline springs, kyb agx adj. struts, omnipower billet aluminum lower control arms, jdm dc2 integra 23mm rear sway bar, obx front and rear upper strut bars, obx front and rear alignment kit, megan racing front 4-point subframe brace, energy suspension poly bushings kit, 16 inch nippon f2 wheels, and suspension techniques 1-inch front sway bar. also the transmission i swapped out for an Si transmission for the lower gear ratio. also added a 12 lb aluminum flywheel.

    Re: A few performance ?'s

thanks man, it's been close to a year saving up and collecting all these parts, so i'm really excited. just need tires, upgraded clutch, and spark (MSD 6A kit) and fuel management (hondata s200, 450cc injectors, walbro pump). then she's ready for a nice coat of jet black paint and custom alarm system with shaved door handles and door popper kit. only aesthetic parts would be projector 6000k HID headlight kit and mugen style front lip...maybe oem-style Seibon carbon fiber hood also. pretty much upgrading the car up in the handling area...minus an engine swap...that would be another project in the future. the d-series mini-me swap with the rebuilt ported/polished vtec head should do for now...

Falkens out of those 3 are by far the best the nitto's don't even bother cheap brand budget crap, the Hankook not much better, personally i'd have gone for the Dunlop or Yokohama but the falkens are uneniably great value for money just don't use them in the wet!!

    Re: A few performance ?'s

well i live in FL and we get alot of rain here, what would be the best tire for wet and dry traction without getting too expensive? something with 300 treadwear, AA traction, and AA temp...is there such thing?....I'm thinking BFG G-force T/A KDW's?

What do you think of the Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's? It has a high treadwear rating and lots of grip.

the higher the thread rating the less sticky the tire will be.

Usually that's where they make up for it in the thread pattern. That's why the Kumho 712's have such a high grip with high threadwear rating. Look at the threads on this thing:

    Re: A few performance ?'s

yeah but tirerack doesn't have all tires like toyo, falken, nitto, hankook, cooper, etc. ....either way i will end up paying around $400 shipped for these tires...just want the best for the price

...i might go for the falken azenis rt-615's ...but they don't have it in 40 series 16". the ziex ze-512 they have in 40 series though...i might go for that, but it's not like the azenis rt-615's in comparison:

i have these tires for the front on my 14" rims right now. so i have to say these are really good dd tires. cuts through heavy rain like a hot knife through butter. they just aren't as wide as the kumhos i have for the rear that are of the same size (195/55/14)....and i like tires that are wider than other brands of the same exact size. they look better/more aggressive and protect the rims.

here's an old pic of the EG on 14" rims last year right before i started the project:

now months later, it will be a whole new different animal. i will have update pics in a couple months when it's ready for the road again.

    Re: A few performance ?'s

i think i finally decided on falken fk-452's.

$110 each with a utqg rating of 300-aa-a.

it's the best 215/40/16 tire for the price in www.1010tires.com in terms of handling, dry & wet traction, noise, and wear.

even surpasses the other more expensive high ranking tires: goodyear eagle f1 gs-d3, kumho spt-ku31, and toyo proxes t1-r
